Al Harthy Relishing Back-To-Back Silverstone Challenge‏

Mere days since producing a successful top 10 performance at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit in the Blancpain Endurance Series, the Oman Racing Team returns to action at the Northamptonshire track this weekend, 31st May/1st June, for round four of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship.Following a short period of relaxation since last Sunday’s demanding three-hour race, Omani motor racing star Ahmad Al Harthy is now preparing for his second such encounter in the space of a week as he teams-up with Michael Caine for the longest race of the UK campaign – the ‘Silverstone 500’.Again competing over a total duration of 180 minutes, this coming weekend’s outing differs in the fact the Oman Racing Team drivers will undertake 90 minutes each at the wheel of the Oman Air, Oman Ministry of Tourism, Oman Ministry of Sports Affairs, Nawras, National Bank of Oman and Al Hashar Group/Aston Martin Oman-backed Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3.“It’s a real treat to be able to race on the Grand Prix track at Silverstone two weekends running, I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel on Saturday”, said 32-year-old Ahmad, “Obviously, we don’t have Stephen [Jelley] racing with us in British GT like we do in Blancpain so Michael and I have to complete 90 minutes each. I think we’ll both do two runs of 45 minutes.“It’s going to be another big challenge but we’re all feeling very confident and positive after such a competitive run on Sunday in Blancpain. We were the fastest of the Aston Martin teams, a great achievement for everyone at the Oman Racing Team. We know we have a good race set-up.”Going into the third meeting of the British GT season fourth in the points standings, Ahmad is determined to make a podium return at Silverstone to add to the sensational race victory the team achieved during the first race of the year at Oulton Park in April.Adding seventh position in round two at the Cheshire track, to move into the early championship lead, the Oman Racing Team duo went on to finish inside the top 10 again at Rockingham in round three despite a Safety Car intervention which cost the squad a possible podium finish.“Rockingham wasn’t the result we wanted but we definitely had the pace for more and Oulton, of course, was a perfect way to start the British season”, added Ahmad, “With extra points on offer at Silverstone, like they were at Rockingham, it’s going to be so important to score well – that’s what we have to do on Sunday.”Following two one-hour free practice sessions on Saturday, 31st May, qualifying for round four of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship will take place at 16.05. On Sunday, 1st June, the Silverstone 500 race will get underway at 14.15.Provisional 2014 Avon Tyres British GT Championship Driver Standings (after Rd3):4th Ahmad Al Harthy & Michael Caine, 32.5ptsProvisional 2014 Avon Tyres British GT Championship Team Standings (after Rd3):4th Oman Racing Team, 32.5pts
