R.R.T. DRIVER HOPES TO RETAIN HIS CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD IN ROUND 4
The EUROV8SERIES has a new leader: Nicola Baldan. The Italian racer, born in 1992, has scored impressive results so far and, at his debut in the FG Group-promoted series, has quickly joined the frontrunners by winning one race and scoring three more podium finishes.
Thanks to his consistency, Baldan cruised to the lead in standings and has a 12-point margin over the Audi RS5 of Tomas Kostka (Audi Sport Italia) and 14 on the BMW M3 of Niccolò Mercatali (Team BMW Dinamic).
As he looks forward to the next round at Brno, Baldan stopped by to answer a few questions.
What do you expect from Brno?
It’s a track where BMW is seen by many as the favorite. But at Mugello they said the same thing and we managed to end up on top… we hope to do it all again in Czech Republic. I’ll try to do all I can to give my opponents a hard time, even though I know I’ll have to deal with 50 kilos of handicap weight and a special care will be required to preserve the tires. I’m confident for the weekend. My goal is to stay at the front without exceeding and to retain the lead in standings.
What has been the most difficult track for you this season? And the best one?
The one at Vallelunga has been the most difficult weekend for our car. The asphalt was slippery due to the rain that fell before the race, and the Audis capitalized from that. We struggled to keep the pace and I scored a valuable second place despite I was at my first time with the C63 AMG Coupé. While we definitely had a weekend to remember at Monza, my best weekend was at Mugello. Everything worked perfectly and, for the first time, I felt like everything was under control.
How is your relationship with R.R.T. and Team Manager Nico Caldarola?
I found myself really well-suited from the start. I didn’t know Nico very well but after having started to work with him, I can say he’s a real motorsports enthusiast… it’s something we have in common and that got us along pretty well. He’s helping me a lot, and I’m trying to reward him with some great results. The guys of Top Run are sensational. The quality they pour on their job is something that takes you back in time. They are extremely professional, but at the same time they think more to the substance than to the form, which sometimes deceive the drivers. So far, the EUROV8SERIES experience is making me grow up as a driver. That’s the most important thing.
