Liverpool-based youngster ‘proves to be the complete professional’ at Silverstone ‘showing consistency, pace and raw talent’ in his RLR Msport-run BMW M3 GT4Declan Jones put in an encouraging performance in the 2014 Avon Tyres British GT Championship at Silverstone last weekend (May 31-June 1) and again showed stunning pace despite a number of setbacks.The Halewood Village-based youngster began the new campaign with two fifth places at Oulton Park back in April, but had to sit out the second event at Rockingham due to circumstances beyond his control. However, for Silverstone the 2013 British GT4 vice-champion was joined by long-term supporter and occasional racer Alain Schlesinger, while RLR Msport took over the running of the BMW M3 GT4.Unfortunately, things didn’t go to plan, but there was still much to be positive about and in the end the results didn’t give a fair reflection of all the effort put in.“It was a difficult weekend. However, I really want to thank Alain for coming over and enabling us to go racing. Without him we would not have been able to race,” said Declan, who is backed this year by Club Liv Manchester, The London Perfume Company, Chicago Soft, Twisted, Vision Tech, Taylors Fitness and Power and Fitness Gym. “I also want to thank RLR Msport for taking the car on at the last minute. They did a fantastic job and made some changes which improved it.”“It is a shame we were not classified at the finish, but I still enjoyed being back out after missing the race at Rockingham,” continued the 19-year-old.“In the end it was the longest stint I had ever done. I did the maximum time allowed because Alain wasn’t up to getting back in after the collision early in the race. I just pushed on though, and was happy with how it went, especially as that big hit put the tracking out. It certainly made it a bit more of a challenge! My laps were good, however, and I was able to consistently maintain a good pace and post mostly 1m 19s laps. Given the damage to the car, how long I was it and the fact we were on old tyres, I took a lot of satisfaction from that.“I just hope we can get the budget now to carry on for the rest of the season.”RLR Msport Team Principal Nick Reynolds added: “It was great to be involved with the British GT series at the weekend. It was a last minute call but we decided to grab the opportunity.
