Formula Renault Drivers Benefit From MSA Academy Coaching‏

Drivers from the Protyre Formula Renault Championship benefitted from a special MSA Academy presentation at the Donington Park race meeting this past Sunday, 1st June, where key one-to-one coaching and an important anti-doping talk formed part of the event’s activities.

Recognised by the Motor Sports Association as one of the UK’s premier junior championships, the internationally popular Protyre Formula Renault series – which has no fewer than 10 nationalities registered for the championship in 2014 – has enjoyed MSA Academy support for three years.

Several of the competitors on the current grid are part of the prestigious programme, including Scorpio Motorsport’s Piers Hickin (Knaphill), who is second in the championship standings, and Fortec Motorsport’s Alex Gill (Womersley, Doncaster), who is presently fourth in the title race.

Two of the MSA Academy’s top coaches, Phil Glew and Adam Gould, attended Donington Park at the weekend. Glew, the 2009 Renault UK Clio Cup Champion and current colour commentator for ITV Sport’s coverage of the flagship saloon car series, worked individually with a number of drivers while former British Rally Championship competitor Gould delivered the anti-doping presentation.

“Being recognised by the MSA over the past three years as one of the country’s top championships has been incredibly important for Protyre Formula Renault”, commented category promoter Simon North, “We were delighted to welcome Phil and Adam to Donington on Sunday, their presentations were of great benefit to the drivers and offered a key insight into some very important issues.

“Anti-doping is an incredibly important topic with a very serious message, all of the drivers need to be fully aware of the subject. So positive has the response been to the presentations, we’re hoping to welcome the MSA Academy coaches back when we’re in action at Brands Hatch next month.”

Created to help young competitors deliver on their full potential, the MSA Academy was originally established in 2009 along with the motorsport version of the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) which is delivered through Loughborough University.

Following a summer sojourn, rounds seven and eight of the Protyre Formula Renault Championship season will take place over the weekend 26th/27th July at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in Kent.

Along with headline sponsor Protyre, Formula Renault is additionally supported by Michelin.
