Championship leader Jayde fastest for JTR in both test sessions in CheshireJamun’s Ashley Sutton runs Kruger closest and is quickest rookie
Jayde Kruger scored an important psychological victory at Oulton Park today, the South African besting his Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship rivals by nearly half a second in testing ahead of weekend’s 10th, 11th and 12th rounds of the series.
Kruger’s JTR Mygale was six-tenths ahead of Jamun racer Ashley Sutton in the morning session around Oulton Park’s International circuit and went quicker still in the afternoon, although Sutton narrowed the gap slightly. Kruger’s quickest lap was 1m 35.894s and he was the only driver to break the 96-second barrier for the 2.7-mile circuit.
“Not a bad time,” said Jayde, “and we’ve been fast all day. Everyone was on the same rubber at the end of the session so we now know where we are. Of course it may rain tomorrow and this will all mean nothing, but luckily we had a good wet test last week at Snetterton, so we’ll see…”
Sutton was pleased with his progress on only his second appearance with the Jamun team, and was the quickest Scholarship class driver in the session by a two-second margin. Thruxton double winner Sam Brabham was third quickest for JTR, with Harrison Scott slightly disappointed to be fourth for Falcon Motorsport: “We had a few mechanical problems,” said Harrison, “and that has set us back a bit.”
Juan Rosso bounced back from a disappointing morning session on old tyres to overhaul his Radical team-mate James Abbott by a hundredth in the afternoon to go fifth. Max Marshall ended his day seventh fastest overall following recovery from a slight off-track excursion late in the first session.
Championship debutant Connor Jupp, 16, suffered a drama in the morning when his Meridian Mygale cut out with engine lubrication problems but the rookie came back to record a creditable time in the afternoon.
Qualifying is scheduled for 1025 tomorrow at Oulton Park, ahead of two races in the afternoon. Sunday’s finale is to be screened live on ITV4.
