Charlie Robertson Back To Winning Ways With Oulton Ginetta Double

Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup front-runner Charlie Robertson returned to winning ways in fine style at Oulton Park International Circuit in Cheshire over the weekend, 7th/8th June, with his third and fourth victories of the season.Taking his tally of podiums for the season to six, the Whyteleafe driver’s wins in rounds 10 and 11 mean he now has twice as many 2014 victories as any other driver. His total haul of 71 points from the weekend also enabled him to leap back into the top two in the standings, a mere four points shy of the championship lead.“Oulton isn’t usually my strongest track, but to get two race wins is really amazing – I’m so happy with that”, said the elated Investigo and Blackstar-supported racer, “On Saturday we needed to find a little bit more pace in the car, so we made some changes overnight and they worked well. It’s great to get the wins but just as important to score big championship points.”Absolutely dominating the rain-hit qualifying session on Saturday morning, the 17-year-old category rookie secured the round 10 pole position by an incredible margin of 0.8 seconds before claiming a superb lights-to-flag success.Under immense pressure throughout the opening encounter from former series champion Carl Breeze, Charlie soaked up the attention superbly and never gave his vastly more experienced rival even the slightest opportunity to pass.Establishing an impressive lead over the first few laps, building an advantage of almost three seconds by the start of the fourth tour, Charlie looked well in control but during the second half of the race Breeze closed in. Unflustered, the HHC Motorsport driver continued to keep his rival at arm’s length and took the flag 0.3 seconds clear – the top two almost 15 seconds clear of the rest. With Saturday’s victory also earning Charlie pole position for the live televised 11th round on Sunday afternoon, the Scottish teenager again made an excellent getaway and went on to win by more than four seconds from championship leader Andrew Watson.Making an excellent start, Charlie importantly maintained the lead from Breeze through the first corner and during the opening laps there was nothing to separate the pair. Driving faultlessly, the HHC driver was nonetheless under significant pressure but the complexion of the race changed when Breeze was handed a drive-through penalty for a false start. When the United Autosports racer eventually took his penalty around mid-distance, Charlie held a lead of more than four seconds over new second placed driver Watson. Despite some light spots of rain towards the conclusion, Charlie increased his lead to almost six seconds before taking the flag on lap 12 some 4.2 seconds to the good.“Carl [Breeze] has been really quick this weekend, he was unlucky with the false start – I know he would have been pressuring me the whole race”, commented Charlie, “I thought the red light was on for a long time at the start, that caught out a few people and maybe some of them had clutch issues. I just needed to control the race after that and put in the lap times we needed to.”Next on the calendar for the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup will be a visit to Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire – HHC Motorsport’s ‘home’ track – three weeks from now on 28th/29th June.Provisional 2014 Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup Driver Standings (after Rd11):2nd Charlie Robertson, 275pts
