GREAT Britain will have four riders contesting the Grand Prix qualifying semi-finals later this month.Danny King negotiated the Monday afternoon event in Germany, whilst three of the four ‘home’ men made progress from Berwick in the evening.Chris Harris and Craig Cook both scored eight points to go through, a total matched by Lewis Bridger who had only been called into the full meeting earlier in the day.The Shielfield Park event, which had been postponed 48-hours earlier due to rain, was a great success with Linus Sundstrom defeating Jason Doyle in a run-off for first place on the night, and Maciej Janowski was third after a run-off win over Hans Andersen.Berwick co-owner John Anderson said: “After the devastation of Saturday’s postponement, tonight went better than any of us had dared hope. The crowd was excellent for a Monday night in Berwick and I’d be more than happy with that level of support for our regular Saturdays, and on that note I have to thank all the supporters from all over who came out and helped make it an excellent night.“The riders deserve praise too for putting on the most excellent of shows with them all digging in deep and producing some amazing moves that really thrilled the crowd. Thanks too to our track staff and presentation team who put together a slick and tidy show worthy of a GP itself.“It was another night I was most proud to be a part of Berwick Speedway who handle these big occasions with consummate ease - it was a great night and huge congratulations to Linus Sundstrom on his famous victory.”

(SPEEDWAY 2 – MONDAY REVIEW)

BELLE Vue recovered from a six-point deficit to secure a 45-45 draw against Lakeside in an enthralling televised Elite League fixture on Monday. The Aces, without regular skipper Craig Cook due to the GP Qualifier at Berwick, struggled in the early stages with Hammers guest Stuart Robson impressing as the visitors went 21-15 up.However, a 5-1 from Matej Zagar and Scott Nicholls in Heat 13 levelled the scores and the home side looked set to edge in front in the penultimate race only for Lakeside’s other guest, Rory Schlein, to produce a spectacular last-ditch overtake on Aces’ stand-in Simon Stead. With the scores level, Nicholls was penalised 15-metres after touching the tapes at the start of the decider, but although he was unable to make up ground Zagar sliced past Schlein and Peter Karlsson on the first lap to save a draw.Belle Vue boss Jason Attwood said: “I'll be honest, Lakeside have always been a bit of a bogey team for us at home as they always seem to do really well here. Of course we would have liked to have got the win in the end, but a draw isn't a loss and I'm still happy to say we're undefeated at home.“Compared to the embarrassing performances of the weekend we saw some real fighting spirit within the team. We're very confident on our home turf and the boys looked good all evening, and to come away with a point against a good side like Lakeside is a big achievement.”

(SPEEDWAY 3 – TUESDAY PREVIEW)

PETERBOROUGH boss Trevor Swales wants a victory over Ipswich in Tuesday’s East Anglian derby at the Showground to ignite their Premier League season. The Panthers are racing only their fifth league match of the campaign, and their first since losing the reverse fixture 40-55 at Foxhall in mid-May.Swales said: “We’ve done plenty of racing in the two cup competitions and now we need to get our league campaign going. Beating an Ipswich team, who have been in terrific form of late, would be a great way to make that happen.“We’ve have been short of home meetings recently, but any cobwebs should have been blown away in the KO Cup against Plymouth last Tuesday. I’m expecting an exciting meeting full of terrific racing, but our boys are well aware they need to come out on top, and I would urge the fans to turn out in force.”The Panthers draft in Dan Halsey as a guest for the injured Oliver Greenwood, whilst the Witches open a busy run of away matches at full strength.
