Castle Combe Classic and Retro Action Day

REACH FOR THE SKIES AT THE CLASSIC & RETRO ACTION DAY AT CASTLE COMBE CIRCUIT

Castle Combe Circuit will be reaching for the skies on Saturday 28th June as it welcomes a selection of hot air balloons to the Circuit as part of the Classic and Retro Action Day.

With the bar set high (2013 was deemed by many as "the best yet"), Castle Combe Circuit has been making every effort to make this event one toremember within the busy Circuit events calendar.

Karen Marshallsay, Director of the Castle Combe Action Days explained: "The Bristol Vintage Bus Group rather stole the show last year with their selection of buses dating between the 1940s and 1950s in which visitors took to the circuit for complimentary passenger rides. People were queuing for a good 20 minutes plus to get onto the buses but the good humour and sheer enjoyment was self-evident as visitors quickly got into the swing of things.

"For 2014 we are going one step further however as, not only will the vintage buses be back but,we will also be welcoming nearly sixty Owner'sClubs displaying a wonderful selection of classic and retro cars, veteran bicycles, scooters and even a selection of hot air balloons!

"We have teamed up with Elite Air (UK) Ltd who are helping us bring around 25 hot air balloons to the circuit for a series of mass balloon launches both morning and evening plus some interactive Q+A sessions during the day.

This is a completely new venture for the Circuit and one that we're truly excited about although we are keeping a close watch on the weather forecast to ensure that it's fine flying weather on the day for all!"

The final lists of Car Clubs are being compiled at present but visitors can expect a truly eclectic mix of cars from many eras. The Asssociation of Healey Owners who, although having only 100 members worldwide, will be displaying super rare models from the late 40s including the Drone (1948), the Westland (1948) and the Silverstone (1949). Spanning 4 decades will be the TR Register from the TR3s of the 50s right up to the TR7s of the 70s.

From the 60s you will see everything from humble Minis and Imps, the firm favourite MGs and Fords right through to the prestigious classic models from Jaguar, Mercedes and Alfa Romeo. Unfamiliar to many will be a display of the super rare 60s Honda S800s. The Vauxhall/Opel Droop Snoots/Mantas and the Reliant Scimitars will provide the retro vibe while the bedroom pin-up Porsche 911s and the Mazda MX5s will bring us right up to date with the 'modern classic'.

The oldest car of the show currently looks as though it may be a 1946 Austin 8 from the Colerne Classic Car Club. With an 'Oldest Car of the Show' Award up for grabs though there may be a few more oldies come along on the day as part of the Cherished Vehicle Car Parking area.

The event opens at 9am. Admission is just £12 in advance (£15 on the day) for adults and £8 in advance (£10 on the day) for seniors. Children under the age of 17 go free. Reduced rates also apply for visitors arriving in a classic car (advanced bookings only).
