TOP FIVE FOR BEER SNETTERTON HIGHLIGHT FOR FRUSTRATED SWRFifth position for Nicolas Beer in round seven of the BRDC Formula 4 Championship at Snetterton over the weekend, 21st/22nd June, ultimately turned out to be the highlight of the season’s third race meeting for SWR after some particularly robust action at the Norfolk track’s 300 Circuit.Set to at least match the result in the second encounter, the Danish driver was eliminated on the first lap after contact and an unfortunate excursion and subsequent pit-stop in round nine also badly impacted his potential – although he did claim a couple of points for 19th position.British teenager Jordan Albert, meanwhile, posted a best result of eighth position in race two with further scores in rounds seven and nine. Venezuela’s Diego Borrelli claimed a highest finish of 15th place in the second race but, like Beer, also experienced a costly non-finish through contact.“It’s been so disappointing this weekend, especially considering where all three guys were after testing – it just hasn’t worked out for us with the situations which arose”, said SWR’s Commercial Manager Mick Gomme, “Despite several weeks out of the car since Brands, and only a bit of testing before the weekend, Nicolas was very competitive and deserved much more from the races.“Qualifying was the thing that let Jordan and Diego down, they both had the pace to start much higher on the grid and then the races were just very hard work. It’s been unfortunate but it is what it is, we’ll all look forward to Oulton Park now and aim to be back where SWR should be.”Qualifying an impressive fourth fastest for round seven on Saturday, just 0.3 seconds shy of the front row, Beer held position off the start and remained close to the cars ahead before being nudged back to fifth on lap four. Despite significant damage to the front of his car after contact, Beer soaked up immense pressure throughout the 10 lap contest to hold firm and make a deserved points return.Team-mates Albert and Borrelli shared the eighth row of the grid ahead of the first Snetterton encounter but the former’s race took a major hit on the first lap when an excursion dropped him to the tail of the field.Borrelli put together a fantastic first lap to climb into 13th position, before then moving into the top 12 on the second tour. On lap three, though, an unfortunate moment dropped the Venezuelan to 19th place and he – like Albert – had to try and battle his way back through. Albert managed to climb back into 17th position but on the final lap, Borrelli just pipped his fellow SWR racer for the place.For round eight on Sunday morning, Beer started fourth once again while Borrelli and Albert clearly had a lot of work to do from the ninth row. Making a clean getaway, the Dane held position off the second row but was elbowed down to fifth shortly after. Worse was to follow, though, for Beer when he was forced into retirement at the Esses on the opening lap following a multi-car tangle.After a brief Safety Car period racing resumed on lap five with Albert holding a superb 11th position, having put together a sensational opening lap, and Borrelli in 15th place. On lap six, Albert managed to break into the top 10 and he remained there to the flag on lap nine but after the race the Briton was elevated into the top eight when two rivals were excluded for on-track misdemeanors.Team-mate Borrelli made his way into 13th position during the latter stages, although a moment on the final lap dropped him back a place. Post-race, however, the South American was put back to 15th position after he was adjudged to have lined-up in an incorrect grid position at the start.For the final race of the weekend, round nine, the SWR squad hoped for a strong and trouble-free conclusion to the third event of the year but each of the drivers faced a tough challenge with Beer starting in 10th position, Borrelli in 16th place and Albert in 19th position.Disappointingly, Borrelli’s involvement only lasted to the second corner when contact pitched him into the barriers at the exit of the hairpin – triggering the appearance of the Safety Car with Beer still holding 10th place and Albert running in 18th position.On lap seven Beer unfortunately ran wide out of Riches, which dropped him back to 11th place, and after picking up some debris in his radiators having collected a trackside marker board, he also had to make a pit visit before eventually finishing in 19th place. Albert, meanwhile, gained two places over the final couple of laps to take the flag in 16th position.
