ADD Motorsports driver Lando Norris was delighted to register his first win and best weekend in the Ginetta Junior Championship.
The 14-year-old left Croft Circuit with a victory and a second place finish after putting on some brilliant performances in the fifth round.
It left the racer in joint fifth place in the Championship and pushed him up to top rookie.
And more importantly, the weekend gave him a real confidence boost going forward.
He said: “It was a really good weekend and great to get my first win.
“I was a lot more competitive this time, qualifying in pole in both races and making it count.
“I had a lot of family watching this weekend, so it was nice to do so well in front of them all.”
Lando was consistently among the fastest drivers in the practice sessions and warm-up and took this form into the qualifiers.
After a few good laps, he got two perfect laps that saw him finish pole for both and set him up nicely for the rest of the weekend.
Race 1 saw Lando get a really good start and three abreast with Jack Mitchell and James Kellett down the straight.
Kellett got a bit of a lead, with Lando defending well to prevent Mitchell getting in front of him.
Lando got into the lead for a few laps, but the three drivers battled it out well to make for a thrilling race, with Kellett just having enough to beat Lando to first place.
Kellett had a problem for the second race, with Lando taking full advantage of starting in pole without a rival breathing down his neck.
Lando led the whole race, with Mitchell doing his best to get in front of him, but Lando’s pace on the outer sectors being the deciding factor. He defended well on the last two laps to ensure he came away with a brilliant victory.
He added: “We’re half way now in the championship and I’m in a great position.
“If I hadn’t got excluded earlier in the season and given minus points, there’s a chance that I would be second now, which shows how well I’ve done.
“The team did a great job as well and this weekend has given me lots of confidence. I know I can compete with the leaders now and come out on top.
“I haven’t raced at most of the remaining tracks so it will be difficult going forward, but I’m going to push hard and do my best.”
