Three Ways to Drive at Lime Rock Next Tuesday‏

Holy Toledo, there are three ways to drive your own car at Lime Rock next Tuesday!

Okay, for one of those three, you have to have a race car...

But the other two, all you need is your car. And you. And the stamina needed for smiling all day.

Here’s what’s happening on Holy Toledo Tuesday, July 15:

1. Open Autocross Day, 12 noon to 6:00Drive the 1/2-mile, 8-turn mini- road course. Don’t need a helmet. Coaching from pro drivers free. Bring a tire pressure gauge and we’ll help you pump up the tires a bit, that’s all you need. Huge fun, almost impossible to hurt your car (no guardrails, just grass and dirt if you get crossed up). It’s only $225, call the Lime Rock Track Office today or Monday (860.435.5000) to sign up. Mom, you can even bring your minivan – we’ll make you the fastest “kid’s taxi” in the neighborhood!

Last night’s “Open Shop Tour” at Automotive Restorations, Inc. (ARI) was great. You cannot believe the hundreds – yes, hundreds – of tremendous cars there, from the rarest of Ferraris to pristine muscle cars. Owner Kent Bain, the chairman of the Sunday in the Park Concours d’ Elegance presented by Bentley (it’s August 31, part of Historic Festival 32 over Labor Day weekend), gave everyone a terrific insider’s tour of how cars go from barn finds to concours-ready beauties.

Fret not if you weren’t able to make it – we’ve got another fan tour of another great resto shop coming up soon! Keep your eye on your inbox.
