SOMERSET’S 51-39 win at Sheffield on Monday was marred by an horrific crash for home star Andre Compton in Heat 14.The Rebels fought back from an early six-point deficit to take victory from the Premier League clash at Owlerton, despite themselves seeing captain Olly Allen suffering a heavy fall in Heat 13.Taylor Poole piled up 16+1 for the injury-hit home side, with several other riders struggling with previous knocks, whilst Brady Kurtz impressed on his first visit to the Yorkshire venue with 13 for the visitors. The two clubs meet again at the Oaktree Arena on Tuesday.Sheffield boss Joe Screen said: “Seeing Andre crash like that was not a nice way to end the meeting. We just hope he is going to be OK and hasn't done anything too serious.“It's injuries again - we are so unlucky at the moment and our luck seems to have run out again. We are just thinking of Andre at the moment and we have our fingers crossed he'll be OK.”Somerset manager Garry May said: “First and foremost our thoughts are with Andre. Nobody likes to see a rider fall, and Andre’s was a particularly bad one, and on behalf of everyone at Somerset Speedway we wish him all the best for a speedy recovery.“Of course we are extremely happy with the four league points, especially after going six points down early-doors. Brady rode a blinder, as did Olly until his crash, and he will now miss the home match against Sheffield as he’s not feeling 100 per cent. But this was an all-round team performance, though all that is secondary to Andre’s well-being.”

PLYMOUTH hope to have 18-year-old Hungarian Roland Benko back in their side for the Premier League match against Sheffield at the St Boniface Arena on Friday.Benko made way for James Shanes to enable the Devils to sign James Wright in place of Adam Roynon and keep within the points limit, but manager Lee Trigger believes the new averages for August will enable him to bring Benko back into the team.Trigger said: “I am still waiting for the official BSPA figures, but I have done my own calculations and we should now be able to accommodate Roland in addition to James Wright.“James did all that we expected from him in the Premier League but we know that Roland is capable of scoring some important points, especially at home.”
