Spanish Racer Palou Joins SWR For Silverstone‏ F4

Chipping Norton motor racing team SWR is welcoming Spanish driver Alex Palou into its ranks for the fifth event of the BRDC Formula 4 Championship season at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit this coming weekend, 16th/17th August, where he will team with Jordan Albert and Diego Borrelli.Marking the start of the second half of the BRDC F4 campaign, the return visit to SWR’s ‘home’ track also sees 17-year-old Palou – who is a team-mate of SWR owner Sean Walkinshaw at Campos Racing in the EuroFormula Open – make his debut in the category.“It’s fantastic for the team to have Alex onboard for Silverstone”, said Walkinshaw, “As I know from racing alongside him at Campos in EuroFormula, he’s a really quick driver and has a lot of ability. The F4 car is obviously new territory for him, but we’re sure his quality will shine through and he’ll be up to speed pretty quickly. We’re quietly confident he can achieve some big results at the weekend.”Taking the opportunity for extra race mileage during a summer break in the EuroFormula Open calendar, Palou joins the Oxfordshire team for rounds 13, 14 and 15 of the BRDC F4 season and arrives in the UK-based championship as a double race winner in EuroFormula Open. After an impressive career in karting, where he won the KF3 title in the 2012 WSK Euro Series and finished as Vice-Champion in that year’s CIK-FIA European KF3 Championship, Palou graduated into car racing at the beginning of 2014 in EuroFormula and is currently second in the standings.Team regulars Albert and Borrelli are relishing their respective returns to Silverstone GP Circuit, Albert in particular with the track situated a literal stone’s throw from the 17-year-old’s home in Silverstone village.Going into the event 12th overall in the championship in his rookie season, the teenager claimed one of his best results of the year last time out at Oulton Park with seventh place. His highest finish of sixth position came during round six at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit in May.Venezuelan driver Borrelli is 17th in the driver standings and, like team-mate Albert, enjoyed a strong showing during the third of the Oulton Park races with a top eight result. His best placing of seventh also came in the third of the Brands Hatch races. With the weekend’s action the first this year at a track the duo have already visited, hopes are high that experience will pay dividends.“This is the first opportunity Jordan and Diego have had to go back to a track they’ve raced on already this year, so that’s a good head-start”, said Walkinshaw, “They’re both making progress and getting quicker, plus they’ve got a great opportunity to work with Alex [Palou] at Silverstone and learn a lot from him. We’re aiming for a successful return to our home track.”Qualifying at Silverstone GP Circuit will get underway at 10.35 on Saturday, 16th August, with round 13 following at 14.35. On Sunday, 17th August, round 14 will start at 10.20 with round 15 scheduled to begin at 15.05.Provisional 2014 BRDC Formula 4 Championship driver standings (after Rd12):12th Jordan Albert, 93pts; 13th Nicolas Beer, 87pts; 17th Diego Borrelli, 65pts
