H and H fosters Ferrari fever at CarFest North, all in aid of charity‏

Who wouldn’t want to ride round the challenging Oulton Park racing circuit in a Ferrari? As the Italian supercars in question were BBC Radio 2 broadcaster Chris Evans’s new LaFerrari and Nick Mason’s priceless 250 GTO, the H&H Classics team had no shortage of bidders for the once-in-a-lifetime treat that was a highlight of CarFest North’s charity auction.

Both cars had already wowed festival-goers with high-speed laps of the rolling Cheshire track. In the charity auction that raised over £40,000 for Children in Need, H&H’s Simon Hope and Nick Delaney whipped up a frenzy of bids for the chance to accompany first Chris in his new 217mph LaFerrari, then swap over to share the cockpit of the Pink Floyd drummer’s 1962 250 GTO. This is the car that finished third at that year’s Le Mans 24 Hours and is one of the most valuable in the world.

The auctioneers were spurred on by radio and TV personalities including Great British Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood, and other rides on offer included ones in a Ferrari 365 GTB/4 ‘Daytona’, Jaguar XJ220, Ferrari 599 GTB and ex-Colin McRae Subaru Impreza.

H&H Classics will be running the charity auction at the CarFest South, which will take place this year from 22 to 24 August at former F1 World Champion Jody Scheckter’s Laverstock Park Farm, Hampshire. See www.carfest.org.
