Tony Lynch aims to end on a high at Blyton‏ Rallycross

Tony Lynch will seek to end his season on a high this weekend when the BTRDA Rallycross Championship heads for Blyton for the final round of the year.

Westhoughton-based Tony goes into the weekend with the chance to pick up championship silverware for a second straight season; something that appeared to be almost impossible earlier in the year when a late regulation change elsewhere forced to switch into the BTRDA’s Supermodified class.

Despite missing the opening round, and with his Lucas Oil Team Geriatric squad having been forced to develop his MINI Cooper S in-season, Tony heads for Blyton sitting top of his class standings - while he also lies second in the Supermodified category and fifth in the overall championship race.

With double points on offer, the fight for top honours remains wide open, although Tony insists that his focus is simply on maintaining the impressive progress made during the year to date.

“Our performance at Croft in the last round exceeded our expectations, and the work we carried out on the engine in the MINI paid dividends,” he said. "When we were forced to change our plans for this season and switched into the Supermodified class, we knew we were starting a development programme and a title challenge wasn’t even being considered.

"While we’ve had a lot of fun and have made huge progress with the car, we didn’t think we’d find ourselves in a position where we are right in the mix for some silverware going into the final round.

"I’m not really going to think about it as my aim is to simply carry on with the work we’ve been doing this year, and if we end up with a title at the end of the weekend then so be it. My team has had a ball this season and I want it to continue.

“Blyton is a circuit I haven’t visited for a while and there have been some changes made which could suit our car. It’s more technical than it was and less about power, so hopefully we can put in a good showing in our final race of the year.”
