Paras win first battle at Donington

Infiniti Support Our Paras Racing won its first battle today even before the latest rounds of the Dunlop British Touring Car Championship starts at Donington Park this weekend. The team's second Infiniti Q50 was rolled into Garage No9 on the Donington pitlane after the Paras completed the car's build overnight. The Mallory Park-based team's Infiniti Q50 race cars are prepared by injured ex-servicemen from the Parachute Regiment, with all team profits being donated to Support Our Paras, the official Regiment charity."At Brands Hatch last time out we only had one car," team principal Derek Palmer Snr explained today. "Since then the guys have stripped Car 1 to a bare shell and totally rebuilt it."Today, as we stated at Brands, the second car is here. The guys worked pretty much through Thursday night to finish the car and ensure it's ready for action. We've already run the engine, so everything's looking very positive."The second car was brought to the circuit separately, and because none of the teams are allowed to run their engines on Friday, the Paras had to push the car down the pitlane and in to our garage."It's been a tremendous effort by all concerned: a huge effort. The guys got finished around 2.30am, and they started again at 7am tis morning."Everyone knows how dedicated they've been while serving in the Parachute Regiment. Now they're translating that dedication to delivering for Infiniti Support Our Paras Racing."Scots 28-year-old Derek Palmer, who twice finished in the top 20 at Brands, heads into the weekend eyeing his first BTCC points finish. His team-mate, Richard Hawken from Walton on Thames, will make his BTCC debut this weekend driving the second car.
