Canamasas to start from 9th on the GP2 grid in Monaco

After his fifth place in the free practice session, under a dazzling sun, the driver with MP Motorsport has delivered another strong performance in qualifying on the extremely slippery asphalt due to rainy conditions. His time set in Group B, despite had traffic on his last flying lap, was good enough to start Friday´s race from the fifth row.

 Sergio Canamasas has made it into the top-ten yesterday in GP2 qualifying session in Monte Carlo, in spite of it was an extremely difficult day as driver approached very different weather conditions throughout the day. In the morning, in the difficult Monegasque streets, Canamasas finished 5th in the free practice session by posting a time of 1:21.033, only five tenths slower than Arthur Pic.

 Later in qualifying, which was rain-affected, Canamasas hit the track in Group B as it was split ito two groups for odds and evens. The Barcelona-born driver improved his lap times and finally clocked a best one of 1:38.691, 9th on the starting grid alongside his teammate at MP Motorsport.

“Our feedback has been quite good both in dry and weather conditions and we are pretty competitive. It is important to have a good pit strategy tomorrow, and it will be a key factor to fight for a podium” Canamasas stressed, underlining that “my start will be fairly important, because it is one of the best moment to overtake other cars, but avoiding any pile up. I think we have two closely-fought races ahead and my goals are ambitious”.

Race One starts Friday at 11.15 and there is a mandatory pit stop.
