Team Suzuki launches new Gixxer Cup Championship

Suzuki has announced the launch of a new one-make championship, the Suzuki Gixxer Cup, that will be run in conjunction with the Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship that gets underway next month.

Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL) will provide a full grid of 20 race-prepared Gixxer SF motorcycles for five rounds of racing at Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore and Madras Motor Race Track in Chennai. The machines will be prepared by a dedicated team of experts and pit crew to support the riders in the series that runs from June until October.

The 150cc Gixxer SF, launched to the Indian market in August 2014, is the most-awarded and highly-acclaimed motorcycle of 2015, winning nine major accolades from leading Indian media for its cutting-edge sporty design, superior fuel efficiency and strong acceleration. And since its launch, sales have increased to between 6000 and 7000 units per month.

With the launch of the Gixxer Cup, Suzuki aims to set new standards for One Make Racing and lay the foundation of Suzuki’s global racing culture in India, promoting motorsports and the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie.

The Gixxer Cup championship is approved by the FMSCI (The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India) and organised by the Madras Motor Sports Club, which is one of the oldest and most active motorsports clubs in the country.

Round 1 – June 5-7th, Coimbatore (KMS). Round 2 – July 10-12th, Chennai (MMRT). Round 3 – August 7-9th, Chennai (MMRT). Round 4 – September 4-6th, Chennai (MMRT). Round 5 – TBA, Chennai or Buddh International Circuit (MMRT)
