Targa Experience Mt Buller announced

Targa Australia, in conjunction with Mt. Buller & Mt. Stirling Resort Management Board and the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS), is excited to launch the Targa Experience Mt. Buller, endorsed by CAMS.

A brand new concept, Targa Experience Mt. Buller will offer all Targa competitors the opportunity to learn more about getting the most out of their chosen sport and to enable them to compete safely.

The Targa Experience Mt. Buller will be an annual event held the weekend before Targa High Country each year. It will help to ensure that Targa continues to prosper long into the future by providing better trained and skilled competitors.

The Experience format will provide an actual competition with the running of a 7.5km Targa Stage on the final climb to the Village on top of Mt. Buller. This section of road is the windiest and steepest section of the famous Mt. Buller Targa Stage that will give a unique Targa experience to all new competitors who attend.

The Targa Experience Mt. Buller will welcome even the most knowledgeable competitor, and for those who are competing the following weekend in Targa High Country, the Targa Experience will provide the perfect warm up. It will also give experienced competitors the opportunity to pass on their vast knowledge to those who are new to the sport, which is something experienced competitors love to do.

On successful completion of the two day course, all participants will receive a newly introduced CAMS Targa Rally Endorsement in their licence, which will give them instant approval to compete in any CAMS sanctioned and permitted Targa Rally in the future.

Targa Tasmania will run for the 25th time in 2016 and many would never have thought the concept, dreamed up by former CAMS President John Large, would have grown to the size and scale that it is today.

A lot has changed since the heady days of 1992 when cars competed without roll cages and competitors didn’t require a helmet or harness. These days Targa meets all FIA world standards for rallying and given the size of the competition fields and the length of the rallies; it has a credible safety record.

Due to the nature of the competition and the desire to ensure that all participants receive a suitable amount of one-on-one tuition from a team of expert instructors, Targa Experience Mt. Buller numbers are limited to just 50 enrolments.

The cost to enrol for this experience is $795 incl. GST, and for competitors entered for this year’s Targa High Country who come along and pass on their knowledge to our rookies, the cost is discounted by $400 to just $395 incl. GST.

Also, if you enrol for the Targa Experience Mt. Buller now and decide later to also enter Targa High Country, you will receive a $400 credit towards your Targa High Country entry fee. This offer is valid up to finish presentations of the Targa Experience on November 1.

Winners of the Rookie Classic & Modern Competitions will receive a FREE entry to the 2015 Targa High Country valued at over $3,000.

For competitors who wish to leave their cars at Mt. Buller for this period through to the end of Targa High Country, free secure parking will be provided.
