BHRC Severn Valley award winners announced

The special award winners in the fourth round of the 2015 Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship, the Severn Valley Stages (Saturday 30 May) have been announced following the rally that also featured the fourth round of the Holton Homes Clubmans Challenge and the third round of the Motorsport Auctions Welsh Challenge.The Holton Homes Clubmans Challenge is for crews using a maximum of six tyres per rally. The top overall finishers from the Clubmans Challenge field were Ben Friend and Sean Kennedy in their Pinto-powered Ford Escort Mk2 after another fine performance. They finished just outside the top 10 overall and once again headed a gaggle of more powerful cars.New overall championship leaders David Stokes and Guy Weaver also lead the way in the Motorsport Auctions Welsh Challenge with one event remaining, the Harry Flatters Rally on 26 July.The ‘Spirit of the Rally’ product award from Fuchs Lubricants went to father and son crew Bob and Dale Gibbons. After scrutineering a gearbox problem developed on their Ford Cortina Mk2 and meant a trip back to base overnight to change the ‘box. Then, on the rally they were forced out with a blown engine.Bob Seager and Simon Hannam collected the award for the ‘Best Improvement on Seeding’, which is a set of axle brake pads from Mintex. They got their MG Midget to the finish in 35th place among the BHRC contenders after starting as car 110 in the overall entry list. Finally, John Perrott won the ‘Hard Charger’ award of a 20-litre jerry can from Green Valley Industrial Supplies. He took his Ford Escort Mk1 to a first victory in Category 2 after an attacking performance. In the process, he inflicted a rare defeat on Category standard-setter David Stokes.
