X-Games in AustinScott Speed gets the gold medal in the Volkswagen Beetle GRC
Scott Speed (USA) won the gold medal in the Rallycross category at the X-Games in Austin (USA). In the Volkswagen Beetle GRC in action for Andretti Motorsport, the former Formula 1 driver won the heat and then prevailed over rivals Steve Arpin (CDN) and Sebastian Eriksson (S) in the final. This was Speed's third gold medal at the X-Games, something that no other driver has achieved. Speed's team-mate Tanner Foust (USA) in the second Volkswagen Beetle GRC came fifth in the final. "What a fantastic race!," said Speed after his win. "This is by far the best medal that I have ever won. The first was something very special, but there was plenty of action on the track today. I'll definitely be taking another look at the on-board images."
FIA World Rally ChampionshipVolkswagen in successful test ahead of the Rally Italy
Volkswagen completed a successful test ahead of Rally Italy. The two world champions Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia (F/F) and Portugal winners Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikkaa Anttila (FIN/FIN) spent two days testing about 40 kilometres northwest of Olbia. The main focus was on set-up testing. They concentrated on finding the optimum dampers and suspension set-up for the Polo R WRC ahead of the sixth WRC round. The Rally Italy will be held from 11 to 14 June on Sardinia and starts this Thursday with the first special stage on the streets of the port of Cagliari. The following three days see a further 22 demanding gravel special stages. Sébastien Ogier (105 points) currently leads the world championship ahead of team-mate Andreas Mikkelsen (63) and Mads Østberg (N/57). Jari-Matti Latvala is currently in fifth in the standings with 46 points.
ADAC GT MastersKelvin van der Linde in the top ten at the Red Bull Ring
South Africa's Kelvin van der Linde picked up a championship point in the second race of the ADAC GT Masters 2015 at the Red Bull Ring. In the first race, the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup Champion of 2013 crossed the finish line in tenth place alongside team-mate Stefan Wackerbauer (D). However, he couldn't do better than 16th place in the second race on Sunday afternoon. Fellow countryman Jordan Lee Pepper, who got the overall win in the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup in 2014, missed out on making it into the top ten this weekend. Alongside Nicki Thiim (DK), he finished twelfth on Saturday and ranked 13th on Sunday. Both van der Linde and Pepper lined up for C. Abt Racing in the Audi R8 LMS ultra. The next race weekend in the ADAC GT Masters will be held from 19 to 21 June at Spa-Francorchamps (B).
Volkswagen Fun Cup BelgiumAllure Team 2 wins twice in Zandvoort
Allure Team 2 won both races in the second event of the Volkswagen Fun Cup Belgium in Zandvoort (NL). The car of Frédéric Caprasse and Cédric Bollen crossed the finish line as the winner after three hours and a turbulent start including three safety car phases. They secured pole position in qualifying. The car of AC Motorsport 1 finished second trailing by around 1:05 minutes, 8KS Corse Team finished third. The race on Sunday was closer at the top. Allure Team 2 beat the Socardenne Team by just seven seconds, AC Motorsport 1 finished third. Allure Team 2 now leads the overall standings with 186 points ahead of Acome Racing (170) and Allure Team 1 (168). The next event will be held on 20 and 21 June in Magny-Cours (F).
