The 15-year-old Carlin driver registered his fourth win of the season in the final round at Oulton Park during a brilliant weekend that also saw him take second spot in the first race.
After picking up extra points for the fastest lap and qualifying in pole position, he moved into second place overall and closed the gap on leader Collard.
And after getting off to what he saw as his best start of the season to claim the victory, the ADD Motorsports-supported Somerset racer left in a buoyant mood.
He said: “It was a great weekend and the win was probably also my best start of the season. “I’ve had a few problems with my starts, but I felt I finally got it right. “If I can keep improving on that aspect and keep working hard, hopefully I can put in a challenge for the Championship. “But Carlin deserve a lot of credit, as all of their drivers were really fast this weekend – they did a great job.”
Lando was fast in practice and took this pace with him into qualifying, putting in two good laps that saw him take pole for the first and last race.
But again, a slow start saw him drop a place straight away in Race One and despite having the pace, he found he didn’t have enough to get past eventual winner Collard.
With a reverse grid for the second race, Lando started in ninth place. He ensured he kept his concentration throughout and although felt he may have been able to push on if the race had gone on longer, was happy to settle for an eighth place finish in the end.
However, the Glastonbury driver saved the best for last, leading from the lights to flag in Race Three.
He got away brilliantly and was leading when the safety car came out. But again, he got away well at the restart to set the then fastest lap of the race as he pulled away from the chasers.
Not content to just sit on his lead, the determined driver then went on to set a new course lap record - eventually winning by 3.7 seconds.
He added: “After losing out in the first race due to a slow start, it was really great to end the weekend with a win – everything came together nicely. “The pace was there, I just had to concentrate on not making any mistakes.
“I’m looking forward to the next races at Croft as it’s where I got my first win last year and I hope I can keep this good form going there.”
