Fruitful weekend for Fontes and van Oostrum at Motorland

3rd and 5th finishes in the SEAT León Trophy for the Spanish-Dutch duo of PCR Sport in the Spanish Endurance Championship´s third round taking place at Motorland Aragón. The Málaga-born driver and the Dutchman scored valuable points for the one-make series and Class 1 and D1 standings.

Álvaro Fontes and Mirco van Oostrum took part in the third round of the Spanish Endurance Championship, which was held in Alcañiz. As weather forecasts announced, it was a weekend marked by high temperatures and both races were rather demanding for drivers and cars. The Spaniard and his Dutch teammate defended their lead in the SEAT León Trophy, the Class 1 and the D1. Considering van Oostrum was approaching his debut at Motorland Aragón and there was a nigh heat scheduled, PCR Sport pair was taking out a difficult challenge. After two free practice sessions, van Oostrum and Fontes set 7th and 4th fastest lap times respectively, with laps of 2:04.450 and 2:02.970, but focusing on race strategy. In Race 1, which got underway on Saturday evening, the car driven by Netherlands´ van Oostrum ran in seventh place just before pitting. With Fontes at the wheel for the second part of the race, the Andalusian racer overtook Lesoudier at first, and later he passed Carbó and Makushin to claim third place among the SEAT teams and 4th in D1 class. Sunday´s Race 2 saw Fontes making the opening stint, and he was 4th before heading into the pit lane for time handicap and driver change. With van Oostrum back on track, the Dutchman was running in podium contention but spun on the final lap, dropping two places to fifth but yet completing a great weekend.“We have mixed feelings this weekend. We finished 3rdamong SEATs on Saturday, which was just perfect for our title chances and we were delivering another strong performance today, despite we lost two places at the end. Anyway we collected many points and my teammate Mirco performed pretty well, considering it was his debut here and at night. Now, a long wait until Navarra”, Fontes underlined.
