Rockingham Cars and Stripes Auto Festival competition

How would you like to sing Star-Spangled Banner at first Cars & Stripes event at Rockingham?MEMBERS of the public are being invited to compete for a starring role at Cars & Stripes, the first ever all-American auto festival at Rockingham Circuit in Northamptonshire, on Summer Bank Holiday (Monday, August 31).The event’s organisers today (Thursday, July 23) announced that they will give anyone who’s ever dreamed of singing in public the chance to perform the USA’s national anthem, the Star-Spangled Banner, at the one-day celebration of Americana.

The winner of the competition will also enjoy a high-speed track ride in an American NASCAR stock car racer around Rockingham, the UK’s only banked oval, plus VIP hospitality for two at Cars & Stripes.

To compete for the glory, and a place afterwards on YouTube, contestants are invited to post a video of themselves singing the Star-Spangled Banner on Cars & Stripe’s Facebook page. Every video posted will be viewed by a panel of judges, who will select the best man or woman for the live performance on the day.

Rockingham Chief Executive, Peter Hardman, said: “Cars & Stripes is all about family entertainment, both on and off the track, and we’re inviting people of all ages to get involved in all sorts of activities on the day.

“These include opportunities to ride around the track in a genuine NASCAR racer, to drive an American muscle car, and to display your own car or bike if it’s American. The Star-Spangled Banner is part of the event’s American razzmatazz, and it adds to the fun to invite public participation in that too. Who knows, it could help make someone famous!”

Two of the best-ever live performances of America’s national anthem are credited to Whitney Houston and Beyoncé - and two of the worst to Roseanne Barr and Michael Bolton. Renditions of the song often get people talking because performers choose to belt-out the anthem in their own, individual style.

Cars & Stripes will feature the inaugural Rockingham 100, a three-race competition for race-bred Pickup Trucks; pit road walkabouts, autograph sessions, and Victory Lane celebrations open to the public.

There will be static displays and parade laps of American racing cars, muscle cars, hot rods, trucks, custom cars and custom bikes; trade stands; wrestling, extreme stunt show and air display; and many more attractions too.
