Luca Demarchi takes Britcar Sport and Touring Cars race win at Donington

Demarchi and Moss are tied on equal points following the second round of the series.

Round Two of the Britcar Sport and Touring Cars Championship took place at Donington Park last weekend and Luca Demarchi and his Team Saxon Motorsport-entered BMW M135 hybrid as potential race winners.  Demarchi was feeling positive ahead of the weekend at Donington Park as recent aero and engine upgrades proved to be a massive step forward improving the performance of the car. In fact, during Saturday´s qualifying session Demarchi took second spot on the timesheets behind Moss, the series leader by a narrow margin of two points.

When the race got underway, Demarchi made a pretty good start and, immediately, he made a pass for the lead by overtaking Moss´ BMW M3 on the opening lap. Later, Moss took advantage from Demarchi´s tires higher temperatures to pass him but with the M135 still keeping metronomic pace.

Soon after making his first pit stop, Demarchi was collected by back marker and losing time following the off-track incident but, at least, he managed to rejoin the race. A safety car period and another pit stop were new raising difficulties for Demarchi, who was running 3rd but with losing valuable ground.

As his first stint was focused on saving tire wear, Demarchi was at maximum attack to close the gap. And his work paid off when Moss made a crucial mistake and spun his BMW. Now Sheile was in the lead but Saxon Motorsport´s driver kept pushing and the British driver also made another mistake. Finally, Demarchi managed to claim his maiden victory in England overcoming all obstacles. Now Demarchi and Moss are tied on 98 points in the drivers´ standings.

“It was a fantastic race”, Demarchi explained, “and at one stage I was thinking we weren´t in win contention anymore, so this win is incredibly rewarding. It´s my first one on British soil and to deliver that kind of performance at tracks such as Donington Park is a fantastic feeling. My first stint was solid but I wasn´t really pushing, so I managed to save tires and it proved to be the right strategy. At the end Moss, by then behind me as he spun, couldn´t try an overtaking maneuver on me, despite his M3 is quicker due to more powerful engine and better mechanical grip. It´s fantastic and now I am really looking forward to continuing winning streak at Snetterton”.
