Following an impressive podium performance and top Porsche honors during the most recent round at Road America, Park Place Motorsports drivers Patrick Lindsey and Spencer Pumpelly will head to this weekend’s Oak Tree Grand Prix at the scenic VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) with an aim on continuing their streak. With only three races remaining in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, it is critical for the team to take top honors in order to keep their slim GTD category championship hopes alive.
“VIR is always an incredible track to visit,” stated team principal and co-driver Patrick Lindsey. “Between the fast corners, elevation changes, and long straight runs, the track really commands a lot. The good thing is, much like Road America and Laguna Seca, this configuration seems to suit us. Spencer and I are as prepared as we can be, so we’re looking forward to getting out there and keeping our championship hopes alive.”
As one of the longer circuits on the schedule, the country club-style track, located in Southern Virginia, is part of a unique GT-only weekend for the series. With only the GTLM and GTD category cars taking part in Sunday’s event, both teams and fans alike are excited to see a different style of racing.
With the No. 73 Park Place Motorsports / Children’s Tumor Foundation Porsche 911 GT America set for the best season in the team’s history, hopes are high to see their streak continue. So far in the 2015 season, the team has scored a pole position, their first victory, and repeatedly shown as the top Porsche in the series.
Considered a specialist at VIR, Spencer Pumpelly is up for the challenge.
“I always look forward to coming to VIR,” stated Pumpelly. “It is, by far, one of the best managed and best looked after tracks in the country, and we’re excited any time we can come here. I’ve developed a bit of a reputation as someone who knows this track particularly well, and I’m hoping this will come in handy on Sunday.”
Practice for the Oak Tree Grand Prix begins today, with LIVE race action taking place this Sunday, August 23, at 1:00 PM ET on FOX Sports 1. The team will also provide continuous updated via their Facebook feed
