Painful weekend for Karro and MVR D Honda

Round seven of the Maxxis British Motocross championship took place last weekend at Preston Docks in Lancashire with MVR-D Honda riders Matiss Karro and Josh Gilbert seeking strong results in the penultimate round of the 2015 season on their Honda CRF250R machines.

Latvian rider Karro started the weekend in fine form by qualifying fourth, with team-mate Josh Gilbert in 20th, but Karro crashed twice in the first race before finishing in 14th place. Gilbert also crashed in race one but was able to re-join and work his way past some other riders to finish 26th at the flag.

Karro enjoyed a competitive start in the second outing, going bar to bar with series leader Max Anstie. Both riders ran wide into turn two and Karro exited in fourth place heading into the jump section and seeking a move back to the front. However, another rider crashed in front of him and Karro went down.

The MVR-D rider was attended by track doctors and transferred to hospital but fortunately his injuries were not too serious. Gilbert meanwhile started the second race strongly and finished in 13th place.

As the sole team representative, Gilbert ran well again in the weekend’s final outing, competing just outside the top ten when a small bracket broke which led to a cable flapping. He was able to continue but slipped to 15th at the flag.

The eighth and final round of the series takes place at FatCat Moto Park near Doncaster on 4 October.

Matiss Karro: “I can't tell you how disappointed I am again. I thought that in race two I could have a good result and then this happens. I'm OK but very sore around my stomach so I need to rest it.”

Josh Gilbert: “I'm happy with the results in race two and three. I got OK starts and rode good. I want to keep improving and get some good results in the last round.”

Mark Chamberlain: “It was good to see Josh battling among the riders he is capable of competing with. Unfortunately, Matiss had another weekend to forget but we’re relieved that his injuries aren't as bad as they might have been.”
