Second half of the season in Audi one-make cup starts at Oschersleben Frank Biela, Uwe Alzen and Harald Grohs to run as guest entrants Project Leader Rolf Michl: “Made intensive use of summer break” The Audi Sport TT Cup is starting to the second half of its inaugural season. At Oschersleben, the permanent entries will be battling for the next championship points on the fourth of a total of six race weekends. In addition, another prominent selection of guest drivers will be on the grid at Germany’s northernmost race track.
When meteorological fall begins, the Audi Sport TT Cup has ended its six-week summer break. The Motorsport Arena Oschersleben will be the venue of rounds seven and eight. “The summer break was pretty short for us. We primarily used it to reassemble the cars that were involved in the accident at Spielberg,” says Project Leader Rolf Michl. “A big thank you goes to the numerous mechanics and helping hands that invested a lot of time so that we’ll be perfectly set again at Oschersleben.”
On the race track not far from Magdeburg, the next chapter of the successful guest entrant duels in the Audi Sport TT Cup will be written as well. Following rallycross drivers, noblemen and ski superstars, three legends of motorsport – Frank Biela (D), Uwe Alzen (D) and Harald Grohs (D) – will be on the grid at Oschersleben. The 51-year-old Biela won the Le Mans 24 Hours five times and became DTM Champion in 1991. Alzen’s track record includes a victory in the Spa 24 Hours and in the GT3 class at Le Mans. In addition, the now 48-year-old was on the top step of the podium in six DTM races. Grohs, between 1984 and 1987, even won seven DTM rounds. Furthermore, the 71-year-old competed in more than sixty 24-hour races. “I’m very excited about the competition between the ‘old hands’ and the ‘young guns’,” says Michl. “These legends have more racing experience under their belt than the entire driver field of the Audi Sport TT Cup combined.”Other guest entrants are Tim Schrick (D) and Alex Lloyd (GB). Schrick was the 1998 Citroën Saxo Cup Champion and the overall winner of the VW New Beetle Cup in 2001. In addition, he contested several 24-hour races at the Nürburgring, clinching class victories in 2014 and 2015. Lloyd won the championship title in the Indy Pro Series in 2007. From 2008 to 2011, he participated in a few races of the IndyCar Series and contested the Indy 500 in America three times. The Playmate of the Year 2008, Doreen Seidel (D), will again be on the grid.”
A driver who will not be at Oschersleben is the permanent entrant Levin Amweg. The race driver from Switzerland is on the mend following his accident at Spielberg but, due to his injuries, will not be able to race in the next two events. “We continue to wish him all the best,” says Michl. “Although he’s absent for the moment he of course continues to be a regular member of the Audi Sport TT Cup team.
Nicolaj Møller Madsen (DK) is traveling to Oscherleben as the overall leader. The Dane has scored 111 points and finished five of the six races on podium. He is trailed by Jan Kisiel (PL, 99 points) and Dennis Marschall (D, 87.5).
