Bundaberg local Mason Barbera was involved in a high-speed crash yesterday (Saturday ,12th September) in Race 1 of Round 5 of the 2015 East Coast Bullbars Australian V8 Ute Racing Series at Sandown Raceway, he was taken to Prince Alfred Medical Centre with suspected broken ribs and after observation and an MRI scan was deemed ok and was released from hospital this morning.
“I feel very tender, sore bruised, but I’m just stoked with the amount of support we had from everybody, but we’re all ok and we’ll be back at Bathurst, ready to rumble, in a different car because that one’s totalled but I’m ok, it was a scary day,” said Barbera.
“I got released from hospital about 7:30 this morning, I had to keep getting woken up during the night, they were concerned about me falling into a coma because of the head impact, I’m pretty heavily bruised on my left side, lucky nothing is broken but there is a lot of soft tissue bruising, I’m alright, I’ll be back at Phillip Island next week in the Kumho car to give it a go so hopefully the straps don’t hurt so much but we’ve just got to keep going,” explained the 17year old.
