(SPEEDWAY 1 - THURSDAY REVIEW)

PETERBOROUGH produced a sensational fightback to sink Sheffield in the first leg of their Premier League play-offs quarter-final.The Panthers were on the receiving end of a hat-trick of 5-1s in the opening three races of their grudge match against the Tigers. But they delivered a rousing revival at Owlerton spearheaded by maximum man Ben Barker to turn a 12-point deficit into a 46-44 victory.Barker carded an 18-point full house whilst David Bellego picked up 11+1 for the Tigers. The date for the return fixture is yet to be confirmed.Panthers boss Carl Johnson said: “It wasn’t the ideal start by any means, but it is not the first time we have started a meeting slowly and I always felt we could come back at Sheffield.“I can't praise Ben enough. He is a great lad on and off the track who helps all his team-mates and wins races himself. Everyone deserves praise though for playing a part in what turned out to be a very good night“We’re only halfway there. We have to forget about this meeting now and focus on winning the second leg as well. If we do that we will be in the semi-finals and that’s what everyone wants.”Sheffield captain Jason Garrity said: “I'm absolutely gutted that we let the lead slip after starting so well. Three 5-1s was a fantastic way to start the meeting, but then Peterborough suddenly starting gating and got themselves into it.“It's not good to be beaten at home but two points is nothing. We can turn that around in one race and we will give Peterborough a good run for their money at their place.”

Also thank-you to the BSPA, SCB and ACU for their continued support.”
