Yorkshire finale for MSA BHRC with Trackrod Historic Cup

The 2015 Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship concludes this weekend (25/26 September) with round eight, the Trackrod Historic Cup.With two stages in darkness on Friday evening and then five more on Saturday, the famous Yorkshire stages will provide a fitting climax to the season for the championship run by the Roger Albert Clark Rally Motor Club. Last weekend, the crews were on the Isle of Man for a double-header over the famous closed public roads of the island and the overall title was settled in favour of Jason Pritchard and Phil Clarke. The combination of Pritchard and Clarke (Ford Escort Mk2) has generally been the one to beat this season as they have competed in the Holton Homes Category K for cars running to FIA Appendix K. They ended the Isle of Man event as overall championship winners and will now come to Yorkshire with the championship pressure removed, so they are eager to finish the season with another victory.Taking the title fight to Pritchard have been Richard Hill and Iwan Jones in their Escort Mk2 from the RSR Historic Engineering Category 3. However a high-speed off on the Isle of Man dashed their title hopes and they are unlikely to be ready to start the Trackrod.Nick Elliott and Dave Price remain one of the fastest crews of all on gravel rallies. The Cheltenham crew did not take their Escort Mk2 to the Isle of Man but are still in contention with Hill to claim the Category 3 title. There will surely be an awesome contest at the head of the Trackrod Historic Cup. BHRC contenders Matthew Robinson and Sam Collis have had a mixed season to date and would love to win on their home event. Rallying returnee Steve Bennett is getting quicker and quicker in his Escort Mk2, while Simon Webster and Jez Rogers will also be up among the leading cars.In the other classes in Category 3, prime contenders include the Escort Mk2s of Ben Friend/Sean Kennedy and Ian Jones/Iestyn Williams in class D3 and Chris Skill/Captain Thompson in class D2.In the Capital Construction Category 2, the title will be decided between the Escort Mk1s of John Perrott/Keaton Williams and father and son Ernie and Will Graham. Following a tremendous performance on the Isle of Man, Perrott has the advantage heading to Yorkshire.Joining the class C5 battle in Yorkshire will be Warren Philliskirk/Nigel Hutchinson and Chris Nixon/Ian Jones, while class C3 will be fiercely contested by the Escorts of James Slaughter/Keegan Rees and Phil Jobson/Arwel Jenkins and the BMW 2002 of Terry Cree/Richard Shores. In class C2, local crew Dave Watkins/Tom Jordan will be to the fore.Meanwhile, an intriguing entry in the Jondel Engines Category 4, for cars produced up to 1985, is the Mercedes 190E of Pickering’s Steve Magson. This will be the first rally for the car and Steve’s progress will be the centre of a great deal of interest.Unfortunately, changes to the event running order following a major safety review have heavily impacted the entry for the Walker Diecastings Category 1 for pre ’68 cars. No longer running at the head of the field has deterred most contenders from entering, although Paul Mankin/Desmond Bell (Lotus Cortina), Bill Douglas/Roger Nevitt (BMW 1800) and championship pacesetters Malcolm Rich/Jonathan Hawkins (Ford Anglia) are welcome entries. After a great run on the Isle of Man, Rich and Hawkins are very close to clinching the Category 1 crown. The Trackrod Historic Cup is based in Pickering with scrutineering on Friday afternoon followed by the rally start at 7pm and two special stages. The rally resumes at 8am on Saturday and the crews will return to Pickering at around 1.30pm.The Trackrod Historic Cup is organised by the Trackrod Motor Club.
