GENEROUS race goers have put their hands in their pockets to help Rockingham raise money for a two-year-old motor racing fan with cerebral palsy.
The Northamptonshire venue organised a collection at its round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race weekend after meeting Junior Exon and his family at Rockingham’s first Cars & Stripes American Auto-Fest on Bank Holiday Monday, August 31.
Chief Executive of Rockingham, Peter Hardman, invited Junior and his family to the venue’s BTCC event six days later and arranged an impromptu collection over the race weekend (September 5/6), raising £1859.00 from public donations. Rockingham then matched this sum, along with several other associates including BeLa Partnership, to take the total to a fantastic £13,013.00
Peter, said: “Junior made a big impression on me and the whole team, and we wanted to do something to help him complete his journey to the United States, for his operation.
“Junior needs to raise £60,000 to fund his life-changing surgery in the United States which is not funded on the NHS nor widely available in the UK. This money will go towards covering the cost of this in addition to intensive physiotherapy and equipment he will need to keep his rehabilitation going at home.”
Peter presented Junior and his parents, Paul and Rosie, with the cheque at a special presentation on the Rockingham podium at yesterday’s (Sunday, September 20), British Racing & Sports Car Club (BRSCC) race day.
Mrs Exon added: “Paul and I would like to say a massive heart felt thank you for the kind and extremely generous donations to support our son Junior. This really has given his target a huge boost so he can have his life-changing operation on December 15.”
The Rockingham team will be continuing to support Junior on his journey but there is still time to pledge your support. If you would like to make a donation, please visit www.juniorsjourney.co.uk for more details.
