Motors TV Weekend Highlights December 5,6

Merry Christmas petrolheads! Yes ok, we know it’s only just turned December, but since every supermarket and department store across the land is getting in on the festive action we’d be remiss not to throw in our lot as well! That’s right, we’re bringing Christmas nice and early with a stonking stocking of seasonal(ish) motorsport this weekend!

We think Saint Nick could do with some extra horsepower when doing his rounds this year. Indeed, who needs a glorified toboggan when you could get yourself one of the monstrous V8 Supercars racers to blast around in? However, it looks as if the eight-pot muscle squad is still very much in action as it heads to Sydney for the final, high stakes round of the season.

Championship leader Mark Winterbottom goes into the contest with a 179-point lead over seasoned veteran Craig Lowndes, and is hoping to become the series’ 23rd title winner. Whilst the order is looking rather tall for Lowndes, the Triple Eight ace will be spurred on by his historic 250th race start and be doing everything in his power to seize a fourth drivers’ crown. Fancy watching this Herculean title tussle? There’s only one place to look!

Have you ever wondered what ex-grand prix winners such as Alain Prost and Olivier Panis get up to in their down time? The gym or snazzy parties spring to mind, but we think you’ll be far more interested in the highly competitive Andros Trophy – France’s elite ice racing championship – which slides back into action in Val Thorens this weekend. As the competitive field consists of nothing but four-wheel-drive hatchbacks with serious attitude, we suspect the phrase ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’ was created for the machines contesting this championship. Add to that the glorious alpine locales and you have a pretty spectacular series on your hands, so make sure you catch all the icy slicing and dicing with our delayed-as-live coverage!

There are even more high-octane winter wonders for you this weekend in the form of live Formula Snow action all the way from Hinterglemm in Austria. Billed as the world’s largest snowmobile race, this spectacular event gives hundreds of riders the opportunity to blast through the Alpine town centre at breakneck speeds. It’s fast, demanding and downright spectacular – what’s not to like?

We now head back to good old-fashioned tarmac for the Lamborghini Super Trofeo world final at Sebring International Raceway. This standalone event in the Asian, American and European Super Trofeo calendars sees teams from all three series come together and scrap it out for the World Final title. Over 65 elite sportscar drivers take their Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo racers to the ragged edge on one of America’s most hallowed circuits, so this one should certainly not be missed!

The excitement doesn’t stop there, folks, as we also have review shows of this year’s International GT Open championship, the 2015 Supercar Challenge season and a spectacular European Le Mans Series campaign to boot!
