Double R confirms Bortoleto as second driver for new BRDC Formula 4 entry

Brazil’s Enzo Bortoleto has become the second driver in only a matter of days to be named as part of Double R Racing’s Duo BRDC Formula 4 Championship line-up for 2016, the deal marking a return to the UK category for the South American racer.

Bortoleto, from Sao Paulo, competed in BRDC F4 in the previous generation car in last year’s Winter Series where he concluded the campaign eighth overall with a best result of fourth. Currently racing in the Sprint Race Brazil touring car series, where he is in the fight for the title, Bortoleto is elated to be joining Double R for a return to single-seater action next year.

“It is great to be back in the BRDC Formula 4 Championship, especially with the new car”, he commented, “I’m also pleased to be at Double R Racing, it’s a strong team with a lot of knowledge so it should be a good season. It will, as always, be a highly competitive championship and we are looking to challenge for podiums, wins and hopefully the championship.”

Teaming-up with compatriot Matheus Leist at Double R next year, Bortoleto further enhances the squad’s hopes for a serious title bid in 2016 in its first season in the championship and team principal Anthony ‘Boyo’ Hieatt is delighted to have already completed two driver deals this side of Christmas.

“We’re really looking forward to having Enzo in the team, he obviously proved his ability and pace in the Winter Series last year and we’re confident he can be a contender in 2016”, said Hieatt, “Of course, the new car is going to be a fresh challenge but I’m sure Enzo is going to be quick straight out of the box.

“It’s fantastic news for the team to have two quality drivers confirmed so soon and we’re hopeful of completing the line-up very soon with our third driver. We’re intending to hit the ground running next year, everyone at Double R is really looking forward to being part of the championship.”

Bortoleto began his racing career in karting in South America aged just six years old and went on to finish third overall in the Brazilian Junior Karting Championship in 2012, his first full season, before moving into Junior Rotax the following year where he formed part of the Florida Winter Tour.

He finished in the coveted top 10 of the Brazilian Championship in the Graduate Class, where he raced in the KZ category in 2014, and this year Bortoleto contested the final round of the European KZ Karting Championship at Genk in Belgium.

His graduation into cars came in 2014 in the South American Formula 4 Championship and he was instantly successful, attaining three podiums in just four races. After his participation in last year’s BRDC F4 Winter Series, Bortoleto returned to Brazil where he joined the Sprint Race touring car series – the title deciding final round takes place on Saturday, 19th December.

Following an extensive pre-season testing programme, Double R Racing will make its competitive debut in BRDC F4 on 27th/28th March at Snetterton 300 Circuit in Norfolk during the opening event of the 2016 campaign.
