Ameya Vaidyanathan joins Carlin for 2016 BRDC Formula 4 season

Indian racer Ameya Vaidyanathan will return to the BRDC Formula 4 Championship in 2016 as he joins the Carlin team, it has been confirmed today (December 17). The 22-year-old becomes the squad’s second driver to be announced for next year as he lines up alongside MSA Formula Champion Lando Norris at the Surrey-based outfit.

Vaidyanathan was a complete motorsport novice when he joined Hillspeed for a full campaign in the 2015 BRDC Formula 4 Championship, but his results belied his lack of experience as he claimed three podiums across the year, including a superb runner-up finish in wet conditions at Rockingham in just his fourth race in the series. He finished 12th overall in the standings as he combined his BRDC F4 campaign with a season in MSA Formula.

Vaidyanathan said: “I'm very excited to be racing with Carlin for next year, and with their wealth of experience and knowledge, I'm confident I can build on my first year in the championship.

“Since the car for next year is new, the learning curve for everyone certainly is a big one, but having tested with the team, it's great to see the positive direction we're heading in! This really is a fantastic opportunity for me, and I hope to hit the ground running when the season begins.”

Trevor Carlin, Team Principal of Carlin, added: “Ameya is incredibly dedicated and professional and has set out a number of goals that he works incredibly hard to meet. To take three podiums in his first ever season of racing is quite an achievement and together I’m sure we can build on this potential and enjoy a great season together in 2016.”

The 2016 BRDC Formula 4 Championship gets underway at Snetterton on March 27/28 and features 24 races across eight meetings.
