Coys auction is one of the perennial star attractions at the Autosport International Racing Car Show, which runs from 14-17 January 2016.
With over 60 classic and historic road and race cars going under the auctioneer's gavel on Saturday 16 January, there will be yet another strong selection of cars for all tastes and competition disciplines from this international, market-leading auction house.
GOODWOOD REVIVAL STAR CARS FEATURE AT COYS
Among the competition cars on offer is probably the most well-known and loved racing teams which have supported the Goodwood Revival since its inception in 1998. Ecurie 'Broken Green' has been a crowd favourite at the Revival over the years, with its two magnificent Mercedes-Benz historic touring cars, in the form of a mighty 1964 300SE 'Fintail' and a sublime 1958 220S 'Ponton'.
Both cars were built from the ground up by Richard and Stephen Miles, from the famed Tipton Garage concern. Richard was the owner of the legendary Downton Tuning (London) Ltd in the 1960s and Stephen was a development engineer on Janspeed's Touring Car programme, working alongside Jan Odor (another ex-Downton man) and the late Keith Odor (1990 GpN Champion).
Rarely has any team been invited to all Revival meetings - yet Ecurie 'Broken Green' has enjoyed this surely singular privilege, rewarding spectators with peerless presentation of two unique 'Silver Arrow' marque racers which embody the peerless standards truly representative of Mercedes-Benz and of Goodwood itself. Each car is estimated at £35,000 - £45,000. However, the astute buyer would be looking to buy both and continue this unique tradition at Goodwood for many years to come!
RARE HISTORIC SPORTS PROTOTYPE OFFERS PASSPORT TO INTERNATIONAL HISTORIC EVENTS
A rare 1967 Ginetta G12 Sports Prototype will feature at COYS Autosport sale on 16 January. Chassis No G12/3 was raced in period by Ginetta ace, Peter Creasey, who won the 2-litre class in the then Motoring News GT Championship of 1967 in another G12. The subject of an exacting rebuild by marque expert Ian Macdonald, this immaculately presented Lotus Twin Cam-powered racer has latterly featured in the HSCC Guards Trophy Series, competing with distinction against younger Chevron B8s. Like all proper historic racers, this G12 comes with FIA HTP papers, valid until 2025. Estimated at £45,000 - £55,000, this rare sports prototype is ready to race in international historic events at the very highest level.
ALL-ROUNDER ENTRY-LEVEL HISTORIC TOURING CAR?
One of the bargain buys at Coys must be the 1958 Ford Zephyr Mk2 Historic Rally Car. Built in the early 1990s by the famed Harrison Ford concern, this 'time-warp' competition car is presented very much as a 'works' rally car would have been in the late 1950s.
Subject of a recent re-commissioning, this proven car is offered as an ongoing project for the historic rally enthusiast or - with very little modification - as a pre-'60 Touring Car in the prestigious 'HRDC Touring Greats' Series. With period entries in the Mille Miglia (1957, Peter Riley and Bill Meredeth-Owen) and flamboyant entries in the early BTCC in the hands of the exuberant Jeff Uren, the Ford Zephyr Mk2 proved itself to be a more than versatile competition car. Coys' offering could therefore prove to be the perfect all-rounder in historic events, at an accessible entry price, estimated at £16,000 - £18,000.
