New title for the Spring Cup Road Races

The 2016 Spring Cup will now be known as the ‘Bob Smith Spring Cup Road Races’.

Bob tragically lost his life over 20 years ago. He was regular competitor at Auto 66 meetings at Carnaby and at Oliver’s Mount. He was a British Champion and was well loved in the paddock by fellow competitors.

The club was over whelmed when Bob’s brother in law contacted the office requesting some photos from the archives. After a long talk with Peter Hillaby and a meeting with Bob widow, Linda, it was decided a trophy in Bob’s name would be a great asset to the Spring meeting. The Spring meeting has rapidly grown into one of the biggest meetings of the year. Hopefully in the next few years it will get to the high standards of the Gold Cup.

This year’s Bob Smith Trophy meeting will be on the 16th and 17th April. Competitor’s entries are now open and available to download on the auto 66 website. The closing date is the 19th of March. Entries confirmed so far are Lee Johnston, Dean Harrison, Ivan Lintin, Paul Owen, Dan Hegarty, James Cowton, Daley Mathison, Tom Weeden and Jamie Coward.

Everything looks set for a bumper meeting
