EDINBURGH will open their 2016 campaign with an inter-league challenge against top flight side Belle Vue.The Aces, who reached the Elite League Grand Final last season before narrowly missing out to Poole, will visit Armadale on Saturday April 2.Although they will not be including Grand Prix man Matej Zagar, it means a rapid return for Craig Cook, after five hugely successful seasons with the Monarchs, as well as two other ex-Edinburgh men in Max Fricke and Steve Worrall.Edinburgh chief Alex Harkess said: “We’re looking forward to seeing how our new boys match up to our old boys, and the reaction from our supporters has been very positive so far.”

SCUNTHORPE have been boosted by the return of Henderson Insurance Broking Group as main team sponsors for the new season.The company were title sponsors when the Scorpions joined the Premier League in 2008, and although they subsequently stood down after six years in that position, they retained strong links with the club.Promoter Rob Godfrey said: “In the last couple of years, Henderson Insurance have still put a significant amount of money into our club. Joe Henderson was instrumental in keeping us going last summer and he's helped to put us into a good position ahead of this year.“I'm delighted that we will return to being called the Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions, and also happy for the club to be associated with such a successful company. Hendersons have recently opened their 14th office; they are going from strength-to-strength.”

THE Darcy Ward Foundation Fund was boosted by a total in excess of £4,000 from Wednesday’s fund-raising event at Poole Stadium.Pirates manager Neil Middleditch and team members Chris Holder and Davey Watt were guests of the Riders’ Equipment Fund, with an attendance of 250.Host Nigel Leahy said: “It was a fabulously successful evening. We heard from Darcy himself via the live link that we were able to establish, and it was so nice to hear that he is in such good spirits, and it was quite something to hear Chris chat to his great buddy.“With Chris, Davey and Neil all well up for some candid conversation it produced a thoroughly entertaining evening and I really want to go on the record to express our appreciation to that trio, but most of all to all the fans that turned out for the very special evening. Thanks go to all, and they can genuinely say they 'did it for Darcy.’
