Good news: your mid-week boost courtesy of the High Speed Television Channel has arrived once more! So buckle up, sit tight and read what we’ve got in store for you this weekend.
In case you were wondering, there really is nothing quite like watching a glorious collection of classic rally cars hooning around a historic Belgian town. We’d say take our word for it, but luckily we have live coverage of the Legend Boucles rally to do the talking for us. Quattro, Stratos, 911 – you name it, these petrolhead Belgians relentlessly rag it. After transforming the sleepy centre of Bastogne into a somewhat impromptu service area, big-name rally drivers take these vestiges of automotive royalty and many more besides right into their comfort zone, tackling the muddiest mess that the Belgian countryside can throw at them. Sound good? Thought so.
Give the good folks Down Under a world-famous circuit, a large selection of prestige GT exotica and 12 hours to play with and you know you’re going to get something special. The 2016 Bathurst 12 Hour extravaganza was exactly that, so we’re bringing you the best bits of the marathon contest to sink your teeth into. In true Aussie style there was wheel-to-wheel racing at every one of the Mount Panorama Circuit’s 23 turns, a record crowd, 29 lead changes and a nose-to-tail battle right down to the chequered flag. It was all gloriously chaotic, so miss it at your peril. The FIA World Rally Championship gave us a properly good show in Sweden last weekend, and the only bona fide snow rally of the season threw up some unexpected results to give the championship chase a good old shake-up. Missed it? Stay cool – we’ve got all the highlights from each of the three days to fill you in!
While most drivers in the northern hemisphere are still in hibernation, young hotshots from around the world have decided to set their alarms early for some hotly contested single-seater competition courtesy of the Toyota Racing Series New Zealand. For the championship’s fourth instalment we head to the Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park in Taupo, and you can be sure the talented youngsters will do everything they can to live up to the venue’s illustrious name! Catch our highlights to see how they get on.
If you’re not in a particularly land-loving frame of mind, we also have some NZ Jet Sprints coverage to frighten you with. The idea of powerboat racing is slightly bonkers in the first place, but thrashing glorified canoes with up to 10,000cc, 1000hp engines capable of ludicrous speeds makes for some ridiculously spectacular viewing. Add to that toxic mix a series of convoluted channels, less than a metre’s depth of water and a stopwatch, and you have a hearty recommendation from us – even if we’re ever so slightly terrified.
We also have more water-borne racing to float your boat with P1 Aquacross from the USA and UK, as well as some equally rapid Road Racing Series and BTRDA Rally Championship action.
