Motors TV Weekend Highlights February 27,28

Needless to say, petrolheads love anything with an engine and some wheels, but nothing says ludicrously good fun better than indulging your inner 10-year-old with a mud bath and a squadron of rapid dirt bikes. If you didn’t get that two-wheeled loonymobile you always wanted for Christmas, we have a whole heap of off-road motorbike madness, and much more besides, to fill your playtime this weekend!

First up we travel to Losail, Qatar, for round one of the king of all Motocross series: the FIM Motocross World Championship. It was at this point last year that Yamaha’s new kid on the block, Romain Febvre, began his MXGP journey and left the round a comfortable sixth in the standings. Little did anyone expect the saga of victories and dominant championship win that he would go on to achieve, so it looks as if anything could happen once again this year! Can the young Frenchman continue his success story in 2016 and truly get his quest to dethrone MXGP legend Stefan Everts underway? Or can Everts’ hotshot protégée Shaun Simpson replicate his performance in the UK and take the fight to the reigning champion? Guess there’s only one way to find out!The wilds of Shropshire are our next port of call as we head to Hawkstone Park for the start of Britain’s Motocross season. The Hawkstone International MX circuit isn’t exactly the most glamorous around, but few others can claim similar worldwide notoriety. Indeed, its variable surfaces and fearsome hill course never fail to throw up a tricky challenge for the throngs of talented riders that take on the infamous event, and thus provides the perfect ordeal for the likes of MX2 World Motocross star Jeffrey Herlings and crowd favourite Shaun Simpson to flaunt what they’re truly made of.

Our two-wheeled tour doesn’t stop there, guys and girls! We also have highlights of the latest SuperEnduro contest from the FIM World Enduro Championship, which tore up Pinamar in Argentina last weekend. After tantalisingly close rounds in Poland and Germany, all eyes were focused on the fierce Anglo-American battle raging between Brit Jonny Walker and Yank Cody Webb going into the third instalment. Having lost ground to Webb after a difficult outing in the Sachsen Arena, the plucky Brit was champing at the bit to leapfrog his rival and steal a march in the standings. Catch our coverage of the event to see if he could rise to the challenge!

Don’t worry; we haven’t forgotten our love affair with four wheels amongst all the bike action! Far from it, in fact, since we’re winding back the clock to revel in last year’s FIA World Rally Championship trip to Mexico ahead of its return next week. We’ve crammed all the craziness into one bite-sized, half hour chunk for you to wolf down pronto. If you happen to be hungry for more we also have coverage from the latest show of talent from the Toyota Racing Series New Zealand, as well as all the best bits from this year’s Bathurst 12 Hour race, Legend Boucles rally and Andros Trophy campaign.
