During qualifying, Andy Robinson had rebounded from a supercharger explosion on his first pass to take pole position ahead of Philip Englefield and Chris Isaacs.

In eliminations, Robinson, Englefield and Jean Dulamon had all advanced to the second round when the rain intervened.
