Hot on the heels from two top 5 finishes, including a podium in the new Mercedes-AMG GT3 in VLN1, Adam Christodoulou is excited to embark upon his first full-season in the Pro division of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup with AMG-Team Black Falcon, which commences with a three-hour race at Monza this weekend (April 23-24).Having competed in Blancpain every year since it started in 2011, the Englishman is no stranger to the championship, which spans some of the most esteemed circuits in Europe including Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps and the Nürburgring, but has only completed one full season, in 2013. That year, Christodoulou impressed alongside Klaas Hummel and Steve Jans in a Pro-Am Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 entered by Black Falcon, qualifying second outright at Paul Ricard, taking two podiums and finishing sixth in points.
Now an official AMG driver and an established winner in VLN, Christodoulou will partner join Andreas Simonsen and Hubert Haupt in a Black Falcon-entered Mercedes-AMG GT3 and after finishing third in class on his last visit, is hoping for another taste of the Monza podium champagne.
“Monza is always tricky because of the nature of the track generally everyone is extremely close,” said the 26-year-old. “In previous years it hasn’t been our strongest track, but the new car is great, AMG have worked extremely hard to develop it and they’ve improved on any weaknesses that the SLS had to create a stronger car. It’s already collected a series of podiums from VLN and the Blancpain Sprint Cup in Misano, so hopefully this Sunday at Monza we can get a third podium in a row.”Following Monza is the short hop to Silverstone, a rare opportunity for Christodoulou to race on home soil, before taking in a 1000km race at Paul Ricard and the iconic Spa 24 Hours in July.
“The competition is going to be extremely fierce, but I’ve raced with Black Falcon for many years and have been team-mates with both drivers previously, so I’m really looking forward to a solid season with some great results,” he said.
“I’m always excited about racing at my home circuit at Silverstone, you always manage to find extra tenths from local knowledge and the support of everyone around you. With its flowing corners, I think this is where the new Mercedes-AMG GT3 is going to show its potential.”
