ROCKS & HARD PLACES FOR DENYSSENSouth African Eugene Denyssen had a tough weekend’s racing in the third round of the British Formula 3 championship at Rockingham Motor Speedway over the weekend.

Eugene’s weekend started positively with a strong second practice session before car issues ruined his third session and saw him sit the final practice out, but he bounced back to qualify a creditable 14th in spite of losing half his set-up time on his first visit to the fast Speedway track and then diced fellow South African Sisa Ngebulana all the way to chase his compatriot home 17th in the opening race.

Series rookie Denyssen was fifteenth in the second race, but he tangled with Indian Krishnaraaj Mahadik on the first corner of the final and both drivers were eliminated. “Rockingham wasn’t exactly a weekend to write home about,” Somerset West racer Deneyssen reported. “We were looking good on Friday morning, but then we lost a lot of practice time and slipped back a little as a result.

“Race 1 was OK - I enjoyed a good dice with Sisa and race 2 was a little better and I was looking forward to race 3 but I made contact with anther car in the first lap confusion and we both had take an early shower. “I’m pretty happy with progress so far, but it’s been a hard job and this weekend we were pretty much between a rock and a hard place at Rockingham! “But I am learning all the time and I am quite quick when we get to together - now we just need to get it together more often…”

The British Formula 3 Championship now heads to Oulton Park for its midseason fourth round 29-30 May
