Did you know?
Did you know that one of the drivers racing next weekend was sitting on a couch playing video racing games not long ago, dreaming of being a race car driver after getting laid-off from work – and was so good at it that a professional race team hired him to drive their factory-supported race cars?
Did you know that there is a driver in Pirelli World Challenge – he’s already scored a podium this year – who is all of 15 years old? That’s Henry Morse, from California... And another PWC teenager, 17-year-old star Austin Cindric, is the son of Penske Racing President Tim Cindric?
As long as we're talkin' age... Did you know that the PWC driver who has won four consecutive GT titles – he’s gunning for his fifth in a row this year – was born the same year Marilyn Monroe sang Happy Birthday to JFK? Yep, he’ll be here Tuesday. (Sorry to call your age out, Johnny!) And his teammate was born in 1990...
Everyone from the fans to the media judged last year’s Pirelli World Challenge Championship its most entertaining and most competitive season in its 26-year history – and this North American GT production series expects no less in 2016. Last year saw nine different auto manufacturers finish in the final 11 points positions in the GT category, as well as manufacturer titles going to Cadillac (GT), Mercedes-Benz (GTA), Porsche (GT Cup and TC), Chevrolet (GTS and TCB) and Kia (TCA). The 2015 series champions were Johnny O’Connell (GT), Frank Montecalvo (GTA), Colin Thompson (GT Cup), Michael Cooper (GTS), Corey Fergus (TC), Jason Wolfe (TCA) and Johan Schwartz (TCB). The long-awaited return of PWC to Lime Rock Park (last here in 2013) sees all six divisions racing on the classic 1.5-mile, 7-turn circuit: GT (and GTA for amateur competitors), GTS, GT Cup, and the three Touring Car classes: TC, TCA and TCB.
