Alex Jones Secures Best Ever Formula Vee Result at Croft

Alex Jones, hailed his best weekend of results with a top six finish in Rounds 5 & 6 of the Ravenol Formula Vee Championship at Croft last weekend.

The 23 year-old took advantage of the deteriorating weather conditions in Saturday mornings' qualifying session by getting on the pace from the outset, setting the 5th fastest time out of the 21-car field.

In Race 1 on late Saturday afternoon, Jones got his #23 Bears Motorsport entry clean off the line but he was caught out by standing water left from the days' earlier downpour as he went through the flat-out right-hander, Barcroft, sending him into a high-speed spin. Fortunately he managed avoid making contact with anything to keep the car in one piece.

Demoted to the very tail end of the field, and 14 seconds adrift of the car ahead, Jones went on a charge and used the remainder of the race to limit the damage to his result. In the remaining 9 laps left of the race, he picked off no fewer than eight cars and finished just outside the top 10.

Sunday's Race 2 took place in treacherous conditions and Jones slipped down to 10th in the opening stages. Despite having to contend with a lack of visibility, he managed to avoid the chaos at Turn 2 and battle his way back up to 7th before the end of the first lap.

He tucked into 6th position on Lap 3, just before officials decided that the conditions were too hazardous for the race to continue and they brought out the red flags, with Jones classified as the highest placed Bears Motorsport entry.

Alex Jones:"I'm really pleased with how this weekend has gone and to take my highest ever placing in Formula Vee is a great feeling, despite that big moment in Race 1 - that was quite a ride as I couldn't see a thing while the car was spinning!

"It's a shame that the weather stopped us from completing the full race distance in Race 2 but it was the right decision as you couldn't see anything and there was just no grip anywhere on the circuit.

"I really hope to be out for the next one at Mallory in three weeks but we're struggling to get the budget together. It would be such a shame to not be able to capitalise on the momentum we've taken from Brands and through this weekend, but we're doing everything we can to make it happen."
