SWR aiming for Bank Holiday bonanza as British F3 resumes at Oulton

SWR makes a return to action next weekend when the prestigious BRDC British Formula 3 Championship resumes for the fourth event of the 2016 season at Oulton Park International Circuit in Cheshire.

Taking place on Saturday, 28th May, and Bank Holiday Monday, 30th May, the latest three rounds of the campaign at the undulating 2.69-mile track provide one of the biggest challenges of the season for the F3 competitors.

Thomas Maxwell, from Darwin in Australia, is SWR’s highest placed driver in the championship standings going into next weekend’s action, holding eighth position, and the UK racing rookie has been very consistent across the first three race meetings.

With a best result so far of seventh position, in round two at Snetterton and round six at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit, 17-year-old Maxwell has scored well in all nine encounters thus far and is undoubtedly knocking on the door of the coveted top six.

Jan Jonck has shown impressive flashes of speed in his first season of racing on British soil, taking several top 10 results including a best finish of seventh on the opening weekend of the season at Snetterton, and he will arrive at Oulton Park 14th in the championship.

The Danish 17-year-old, who resides in Skodstrup, was a multiple race winner in his native Formula Ford category and also competed in ADAC Formula 4 in Germany prior to making the step-up into British F3 this year – like team-mate Maxwell making his debut on the UK racetracks in 2016.

South Africa’s Eugene Denyssen, who has returned to full-time track action this season with his graduation into BRDC British F3 after a season on the racing sidelines, holds 17th place in the driver standings and has a best finish of ninth place which came at Brands Hatch GP track in April.

The second event of the season also delivered a highlight drive from Denyssen where he carved his way through from 20th on the grid into the top 12 in round six, a performance which underlined the capability of the 20-year-old at the wheel of his 230bhp single-seater.

Ahead of the resumption of the British F3 campaign, SWR team owner Sean Walkinshaw said: “All of the guys are looking forward to Oulton Park, it’s a fantastic track and a real test for any driver no matter their level of experience. Obviously, neither Tom, Jan or Eugene have raced at Oulton before so it’ll provide an even bigger challenge but we’re going there confident of a strong showing.”

Oulton Park qualifying will get underway at 11.10 on Saturday, 28th May, with round 10 of the season scheduled to begin at 15.20. After a day of rest on Sunday, 29th May, the competitors will be back on track on Bank Holiday Monday, 30th May, for rounds 11 and 12 which take place at 09.55 and 14.05 respectively.
