British Truck Racing: Thunder and flames at Thruxton this weekend

Huge grid of incredible racing trucks to do battle at UK’s fastest circuitBritain’s biggest racing machines primed to thrill Thruxton crowdsFun-filled day of action-packed entertainment for all the family in Hampshire

The BTRA British Truck Racing Championship is powering up to thunder into Thruxton this weekend (11/12 June) for the third round of its 2016 campaign, with six winners from ten races to-date promising an unpredictable feast of flat-out entertainment. One of the British Automobile Racing Club’s best-loved and most impressive series, the British Truck Racing Championship has already enjoyed two exhilarating outings this year. Now the huge headlining 1200bhp+ behemoths are coming to the quickest circuit in the country for another weekend of high-octane thrills ‘n’ spills, as they get set to duel it out tooth-and-nail in five exciting showdowns. It’s tight at the top of the standings and with five fast-paced races at every event, the BTRA series undoubtedly provides the biggest bang-per-buck in UK motor sport. With two classes and reversed grids across the meetings, drama is guaranteed. In Division One for modified monsters, Ryan Smith leads the way in his MAN truck off the back of a superb weekend last time out. That said, he is only three points clear of the vastly experienced Stuart Oliver, who is himself 12 points ahead of reigning champion Mat Summerfield with a gaggle of drivers right behind all vying for a top three position as the championship heads to Hampshire.Division Two for trucks closer to standard production specification is every bit as close, as Adam Bint tops the table from John Powell and Simon Cole, with the trio separated by a mere 10 points. It’s not just the trucks that will thrill the Thruxton faithful this weekend, however, with a bumper bill of support series to whet the appetite too. There will be no shortage of wheel-to-wheel racing and high-speed spectacle from the Kumho BMWs, super-fast Caterhams, Classic Formula Fords, Hyundai Coupe Cup, Sports Racing Cars and Pickup Trucks.Viewing hotspots will include the Complex and Chicane, where crowds will gather to watch the trucking titans and support series stars do battle for supremacy in their quest for glory. “It’s always exciting to see the trucks racing flat-out around Thruxton,” enthused Thruxton Group Managing Director Bill Coombs. “The championship is in great shape right now with some really intense battles throughout the field, and after their action-packed visit last year, we’re expecting to see busy spectator banks once again this weekend.“We’re fortunate here at Thruxton to have a circuit that is popular with fans and competitors alike, and watching the drivers trying to harness 1,200bhp around the flat-out sweepers – whilst at the same time dicing wheel-to-wheel – is a uniquely mesmerising sight. If you’ve not been before, you’ve been missing out!”Tickets can be purchased on the gate and are priced at just £13 for Saturday, 11 June and £19 for Sunday, 12 June, with grandstand seats an additional £2 on Saturday and £5 on Sunday. Accompanied children aged 15 and under are admitted free. For more information on Thruxton’s race meetings and driving experiences, visit: http://www.thruxtonracing.co.uk/
