Silverstone up next as BRDC British F3 title battle resumes

on the Grand Prix Circuit

The demanding Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit is the next challenge that awaits the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship partnered by Duo grid, as rounds 13, 14 and 15 of the 2016 season take place this weekend (11/12 June) in Northamptonshire.

A 22-car field will tackle the 3.6-mile track as the British F3 drivers follow in the wheel tracks of their F1 heroes with three races across Saturday and Sunday. Carlin’s Ricky Collard currently leads the way in the championship standings on 269 points after a storming weekend last time out at Oulton Park, where he claimed two victories.

Australian Thomas Randle is the man leading the chasing pack, with two runner-up finishes in Cheshire moving him up to second in the overall standings for Douglas Motorsport. Just 11 points further adrift in third sits Double R Racing’s Brazilian driver Matheus Leist. The 18-year-old has won two races so far this season but hasn’t been on the top step of the podium since the fourth encounter of the year at Brands Hatch, and will be aiming to get back to winning ways this weekend.

Lanan Racing’s Toby Sowery has dropped back to fourth, having led the championship leaving Brands Hatch. The 19-year-old took a reverse-grid race win at Oulton Park though and will be looking to add to his two victories thus far to reignite his title challenge. Enaam Ahmed and Aleksanteri Huovinen are currently fifth and sixth in the standings ahead of the returning Lando Norris. The Carlin driver has claimed two wins from the six British F3 races he has contested in 2016 and will be one to watch at Silverstone.

The top-10 is completed by Enzo Bortoleto, Thomas Maxwell and Sisa Ngebulana with Harrison Scott making his BRDC British Formula 3 debut this weekend with HHC Motorsport. Currently competing in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 category, Scott finished as runner-up in last year’s BRDC F4 Autumn Trophy which used the Tatuus-Cosworth car and he will be looking to use that experience to challenge at the front this weekend.

Qualifying at Silverstone gets underway at 10:40 on Saturday with race one of the weekend starting at 14:40. Sunday’s action begins with the partially reverse-grid race two at 10:00 with lights out to start the third and final of the meeting at 16:30, which will be broadcast live on Motors TV. As always, you can watch all the action from Silverstone through the one-hour long highlights programme which is broadcast on ITV4 one week after the meeting.
