Motorbase Performance set for prestigious Silverstone 500

Motorbase Performance turns its attention to the season highlight of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship, the Silverstone 500 this coming weekend (June 11/12).

After a bumpy start to its 2016 season, the David Bartrum’s squad is hoping for a change in fortunes as a near capacity strong grid of 51 GT cars descends on the ‘home of British Motorsport’ for its blue riband 3 hour, 500 kilometre event.

The only three hour race of the season is a pivotal point in the calendar and with 37.5 points on offer Motorbase pairing Ross Wylie and Phil Dryburgh are hunting a strong finish to get their championship challenge back on track.

Silverstone is a circuit that suits the Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 well and the Motorbase squad has enjoyed success in the Silverstone 500 previously, taking a commanding win on the iconic British track back in 2014.

“Oulton Park wasn’t the result we wanted but the team is really looking forward to going to Silverstone for the annual 500km race;” commented Motorbase Team Boss David Bartrum. “It’s a prestigious event and one that we’d done really in in the past so hopefully we can look forward to a more positive result.

“It’s our one and only three hour event and I hope that will play to our advantage;” Bartrum added. “I’m expecting some good racing and I think that the race format and circuit will suit Ross and Phil very well.”

Round 5 of the British GT Championship known as the Silverstone 500 will be shown live on MotorsTV from 12.30 on Sunday June 12. Following practice sessions in the morning, qualifying gets underway at 15.40 on Saturday with Sunday's 3 hour race scheduled to commence at 12.50.

Driver Quotes:

Ross Wylie: “I’m really looking forward to Silverstone and targeting a top 5 finish. It’s the mid-way point of the season and we really need to get some more points in the bag for our Championship. Phil and I have suffered some bad luck so far but hopefully that’s all behind us now and we can start building up some momentum for the second half of the season.”

Phil Dryburgh:“I’m looking forward to Silverstone this weekend. It’s a circuit that I really enjoy racing on and I’ve had some good results in British GT and also celebrated winning the Britcar 24 hours here in 2012 so it holds good memories for me. The Aston performs well at Silverstone and Motorbase has taken a few wins here in the past so if we could manage a top 5 result this weekend I’d be delighted!”
