Henry Surtees Challenge

CARLIN AND GINETTA OFFER UP TWO EXCITING PRIZE OPPORTUNITIES FOR KARTING CHALLENGE COMPETITORS

The sixth annual Henry Surtees Challenge ‘All-comers’ event will take place at Buckmore Park Kart Circuit, Kent on Wednesday 26th October 2016 and is open to racers aged 15 years or over. The karting Challenge has rapidly become an essential fixture on the racing calendar for motorsport talent, and provides a unique opportunity to win a spectacular range of career enhancing prizes – considered to be the best prizes ever offered at a karting event and this year is no exception.

The highly competitive event will see the drivers, some from karting and others who have made the transition to cars, returning, to battle it out, using the superb Club 100 Birel Karts. The top three drivers will be awarded the prestigious Henry ‘H’ trophy title. The drivers then, according to finishing order, get the choice of exclusive prizes that will greatly assist their racing preparation for the 2017 season. Prizes will also be awarded for fastest lap, the most unlucky driver and a heavyweight prize for 80kg or above.

Thanks to the support of Carlin who Henry drove for in Formula BMW and Ginetta which was his first step into racing cars, the Henry Surtees Foundation are delighted to announce two further very exciting prize opportunities in addition to those already announced.

Carlin has an enviable reputation for winning races, their expertise and knowledge has helped hundreds of drivers achieve their racing ambitions. The team are providing one lucky competitor with the opportunity to join them for experience in the team’s simulator and for expert tuition for the day in an F4 British Championship car.

Carlin is one of the largest teams outside Formula 1 with race winning experience in a variety of championships including British F3, Porsche Supercup, and World Series by Nissan, Formula Renault 3.5, A1GP, FIA Formula 3 European Championship, GP3 Series, GP2 Series and Formula BMW. Some of today’s most successful drivers have passed through the doors of Carlin, including racers in F1, IndyCar, WTCC and DTM. Over 300 drivers have worked with the team, many of their way to the highest level of the sport. From Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo to Max Chilton, Kevin Magnussen to Daniil Kvyat. With access to cars throughout the range of single seater racing, Carlin is perfectly placed to take drivers from their first steps in junior cars to more sophisticated machinery.

Carlin has been active supporters of the Henry Surtees Foundation, having supported the foundation from its inception. Trevor Carlin said, “The Henry Surtees Foundation is a cause extremely close to our hearts here at Carlin so we are proud once again to be able to help and support in any way we can. This year we are delighted to announce that will be offering an exciting prize of a simulator session with one of our race engineers at our Farnham base, a factory tour and a fantastic opportunity to test our F4 British car on track. We’re looking forward to seeing the competition close up and working with the driver who takes the prize. It is also always heart-warming to see that Henry’s legacy continues to inspire and help through John and the incredible work that the Henry Surtees Foundation provide.”

Also supporting the foundation once again is Ginetta. Ginetta are providing the opportunity for one lucky racer to join their team for a unique track day experience, enabling the winner to get behind the wheel of the G40 GT5 challenge car for an exhilarating test drive. The G40 GT5 participates in the popular British GT and Touring Cars weekends; the car unleashes the G40's maximum power and potential and features full-slick tyres. Dependent on the level of experience, there will also be the potential to drive the G55 GT4. The G55 GT4 has a successful track record for performance and reliability, as proven in some of the most gruelling races in the world including the VLN Nordschleife 24hr, Gulf 12 Hour and Dubai 24 Hour Endurance race in which the G55 GT4 has achieved consecutive wins for the past two years, securing both 1st and 2nd position in 2016.

Ginetta offers a genuine route for progression from entry level competition, right the way through to international motorsport platforms. The unrivalled motorsport ladder has taken drivers from their first race aged 14 into international racing stardom. The team Ginetta family will provide expert tuition throughout, to make sure the driver is pushed to his or her personal limits.

John Surtees said “I understand the difficulty youngsters are faced with in motor sport; the Henry Surtees Challenge provides a big helping hand, by rewarding such talent with the rare opportunity to win career enhancing prizes such as test drives and experiences with professional race teams to equipment supplied by companies that are major supporters of Formula One teams worth thousands of pounds. We are grateful to Carlin and Ginetta for their continued support”.

Last year Piers Prior won the event, and was invited by Manor MP Motorsport to take part in the official Formula Renault 2.0 Rookie test held at Jerez, Spain. Piers said ‘The Henry Surtees Foundation has helped me so much over the past few years, giving me the opportunity to test in MSA formula and FR2.0 where I would not otherwise have had the chance”.
